That's why a smart person, like me, has a bottle of water and bleach under the sink, and always sprays everything around and in the sink with it after any poultry fixin's. Or, ya can lay the turkey in the front yard and hose it off.   ;)

My brother who has 10-15 years making vaccines for everything from horses to cows to turkeys & chickens is very very careful when fixing any poultry.

Yuzu's a good man Reb!

Yep! Cross contamination is a real problem that a lot a folks know nuttin about. Keeping dat raw bird away from touching any other food products is must. As fur me I always rinse my bird, but like Reb I sanitize my prep area when finished. Salmonella contamination is a serious concern.

I don't rinse beef or pork [unless it's the enhanced pork].  But I do rinse poultry.  I think it's good to rinse your bird and then blot them dry with paper towels.  You sure you want to trust the plant to rinse the bird?  i don't.  I can appreciate the site mentioned however I was taught many years ago to rinse poultry.  As it leaves the plant, [not just turkeys] bacteria is already forming the longer it's stored fresh.  Fresh turkeys are brought into the store partialy frozen so that's why the long code date on them.  Once thawed some bacteria will form just like any fresh meats.  Not that big of a deal but the longer stored the more bacteria will form.  So when I buy chicken I bring it home prior to cooking and rinse it off.  I've been doing this forever.  Clean your cutting boards  after or any other area the poultry was on.  good luck.

RH I agree with all you the way on the bird coming out the slaughter plant being not cleaned to what ever..   I was there and seen it, all birds.  I just go with temp and that does not make me right.  it's just what I do...  life is good today...   good luck  muzzy hunting...

I rinse all birds too.  I am very careful and try not to use much water pressure so as to not splash.  I am very careful and clean the cutting board, sink, tools, etc.
