fuel addative question

Ok fellers wit all the smarts. got a question fer ya. so i be headed up do really gonna be frigid cold northern minnesoda this weekend. i always say an ounce of prevention so.......................in your opinion would it be wise to put some seafoan and isopropal accohol (heet) in the gas right away when i get up there to prevent fuel issues. i use non oxy gas in mine!!!!!!!!!!!

Since it's alcohol, mix it with cinnamon and whiskey, and feed it to Boar. Fireball II. 

Or run it in yer top-fuel dragster.

We use Seafoam a lot but also have a some of the Starbrite additive here as well. Pretty spendy but it doesn't take very much, we mostly use it on equipment that might set a little longer.

my wheeler and auger. actually i use the non oxy fuel in all my small engines, chainsaw, lawnmower, snow blower........................essentially everything cept my vehicles!!!!!! and i'm converting everything over to synthetic oil also!!!!!!!!!

Here's my small engine and related fuel advice.

non ox is a good idea, helps keep the varnish and green crap out of your carbs while the equipment is stored for extended periods of time. Here's the downside, it is my personal opinion that non ox is more likely to have water contamination at the filling stations because it doesn't sell as quickly as regular fuels. Regular fuel is garbage, it ruins soft lines, seals, it gums in storage scenarios, I hate it. But.... it's full of alcohol, so if there is some moisture in it, it doesn't ice up because the alcohol blends with the water and it simply passes rather than turning to an ice bead or ice crystal blockage.
  When you run non ox in the severe cold, you put yourself back about 30 years, back in the old days of carrying "heet" to dissipate moisture.

If a bottle of heet is something you already have, I say go ahead and use it in your non ox fuel toys. For things like 2 stroke augers and chainsaws, I actually recommend the qt bottled pre mixed fuels such as the tru fuel brand.

In extreme cold, if you know you are going to burn some fuel with some fairly predictable run time I think regular fuel is just fine. Burn it up and refill the tank with non ox and make sure to run it through the carb really good before putting away for extended storage periods.

By the way, are you watching this weather? you sure you want to come up here this weekend? We are expecting -30 tonight up by lake of the woods, -27 friday night, -20 or so for sat-sunday nights, -24 monday night... besides being dangerously cold, that's a serious extended cool down. You know what that usually does to the fishing right?

yea Dave i am following the weather closely. we will be mostly spearing. we should see fish as ive fished the cabin lake for 45 plus years. spearing doesnt require a bite, just curiosity. i left ALL my fishing stuff up there so i need to get it home. i'm not a fan of going up there when its this cold but the friend who's going with works such a screwy schedule, weekends are hard to fit in, he also left some stuff up there cause we planned on being there new years weekend. that didnt happen.

depending on how things shake out we my try for crappies one afternoon!

i'm also planning on putting the wheelers inside the sheds at nite with a trickle charger on them, hopefully that will "encourage" them to start easier in the morning!!!!!

Took 6-7 hrs yday for us yday & that was with it being in the mid 30's when we arrived. Thermostat was at 50 too.

Great advise northerdave. I mix and go, run my 2 cycles tgen fill again,(Non oxy) when it comes to storage it's ran dry, although I've never used a bottle of heet in anything in my life. Good luck fishing Glenn , I mean spearing.. just not sure how your gonna spear crappies..

personally i don't like the heet either, kinda like the starting fluid which i think is a no-no but i was in desperation mode when i bought the heet. i picked up a jug to da stuff reb recommended, that and the stabil will be going in the wheelers and auger before they even get started tomorrow!!!
