I have a Jiffy model 30 10" auger and the blade is really dull.

What is better, get the blade sharpened or replace it?  How and where and how much can this be done?

Thanks.

it's all about cost. what you want to spend
re-sharpend blades cut good and just like new IMO
new baldes definately cut like new.
re-sharpened blades are like half the price.

New blades then get a Jiffy sharpener and have the second set for a spare.

That Jiffy 30 blade runs about $30 new. You can definitely do an exchange at a local bait shop for less than $20 usually. I usually wait til the end of the year and buy a few blades when they are on clearance.

If you need to know where to get them sharpened, Vados Bait on 65 in Blaine does it or exchenges and D Rock landscape center in New Brighton also, I would call D Rock as I am not sure if they deal with anything other than strikemaster.

I managed to buy a resharpened one for a replacement real cheap. I keep it for a spare incase the one falls off or something. The one I have on the auger I just resharpen with a dremmel.

You can prolly buy a cheap dremmel type tool at fleet or maynards cheaper than you can buy a new blade. Much cheaper and then you have a multitool to do other things as well.

Awesome topic, and couldn't have been better timing either!
Last night while making an attempt to Zamboni the hockey rink, I punched about halfway through the ice when I felt the ominous BUMP.....of a submerged deadhead.  No more holes were drilled and the resurfacing was scrapped til the blade is replaced or sharpened. Thanks for the info.

Wow!  Replacement blades are not easy to find this time of year.  Called  Fleet Farm, Scheels, Gander, Sportsmans, Cabelas...  No, Nada, Nothing.  Finally called the local bait shop in Monticello and they had a resharpened one that they swapped me for mine and $17.99.  Not bad.  Now I will keep my eye open for a spare.

I brought my blades to a local saw store. They had the sharpened and back to me the same day.It was only $10 and they cut like new. I dont know how close you are to duluth but i brought them to Duluth Saw.
