  Ask a Conservation Officer:

Can debris be pushed into lake? :bonk:

Q: I live along the lake shore and am raking my yard and cleaning up leaves and branches. Can I push the debris into the lake for fish habitat or biomass?  :imstupid:

A: No. Placing items, whether fill, yard waste, garbage, etc. into public waters is a violation of both litter and public water management laws. If a material comes from your property, it is your responsibility to find the appropriate place in which to dispose of it. During summer months, conservation officers find landowners who have dumped leaves, lawn trimmings, tree brush and other items into lakes, rivers and wetlands.

All are a violation and are investigated. Many times, officers are keyed in to these dump sites by neighbors who are unhappy to see it wash up on their shoreline.

Dispose of your waste in the right place :doofus: :moon: :doah: :tut:

I was wondering about dis. Someone left a Christmas tree on the ice and let it sink to the bottom on St. Olaf. It was over in the lily pad area so no one is supposed to be boating thru there anyway. Just seemed a little odd tho that someone from the DNR didn't make them remove it. Probably too busy issuing citations for recreational fires that are 2" too large in diameter...

You mean two meters too big?   Probably had no idea who put the tree on the ice.   Could have been a pagan celebrating the winter solstice and making them remove it would have violated their religious freedom?   You should have gone, probably all sorts of smoking and drinking and fooling around.   :smoking: :sleazy: :happy1:

The book.  Chapter where they have the dance in the government camp.

(excerpt)
Willie explaining to another:

“Swedes up in Dakota—know what they do sometimes? Put pepper on the floor. Gits up the ladies’ skirts an’ makes ’em purty lively—lively as a filly in season. Swedes do that sometimes.”

― John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath

So, is that the main thing you learned from reading that classic novel?

People don't realize that building a fire with old boards, wood, etc, on the ice, then leaving it, is illegal too. Where do they think all that crap ends up in the Spring??! They also think they can use the Hydro-blasting thingies to clear the bottom of weeds....NOT! Anything that disturbs the bottom/bottom vegetation and stirs it up is illegal.
