Keep reading  that Sears is on the way out after filing for bankruptcy. Bummer. Sears was part of my growing up years. We even had some David Bradley mowers and such on the farm. Betcha there'll be some good sales if one can find a store!

We had a Wards, Sears, and Penny's in Luverne when I grew up.  It was so cool to just stop in and order something and it would be there in a few days.  Man that was living.  I do really hope that eventually people will want to go to stores to see the thing they want and pick it up and take it home.  This online thing is so easy though.

This online thing is so easy though.

You'd think the Sears catalog business could have translated to the internet, but that never happened.  On one hand, they clung to brick and mortar stores past when they should have.  And at some point Sears' brand name products lost their reputation as the gold standard for quality.

I bought a printer off Amazon the other day.  Amazon shipping dispatched a private courier to deliver it on Sunday.  I felt guilty.  Not about the purchase, but that someone had to come out and deliver it.  How do they make money doing that?

That's what I wonder too Steve.  I wonder if at some point that the shipping that is happening now will skyrocket in price and that maybe it will bring back stores that can ship a whole truck full of stuff to one store more efficiently.  I do hope that happens with some stores.

this is one guy that likes actually going to the store to get what i may need. the fact that i like to see and hold the product i am looking for is important to me, so online ordering  is not making anything on me!!!!!!

X2. Gotta hold it, see it, feel it, before I buy it. DID purchase my Tac lights and gun holsters off the internet, as no stores in CAWchester would have things like THAT, god forbid.

Those Nitecore Tac lights are great, aren't they Barry? Just used mine again last nite when there was a ruckus out back...lit up the whole neighborhood!

Sears went way down hill years ago, IMO. Never did shop there, except for the Craftsman tools, of which all my hand tools are. Broke a ratchet drive, and screwdriver tip, and they tried to give me some used ones they pulled out of a drawer! NOT! That wasn't the Craftsman lifetime replacement guarantee. Also, their power tools are now junk, went thru two sabre saws that were garbage, and they wouldn't stand behind them, so I won't miss them. Done a lot of work on Craftsman mowers, want parts? Nothing else fits. Ya haveta get them from Sears, and they're insane overpriced. I will no longer work on any Craftsman mower or blowers for that reason.

I DID have a Craftsman self-propelled lawnmower...junk! (Look at all the riders for sale on C-list...90% are Craftsman) Replaced belts, drive gear broke, throttle cable broke. Three years old. Because the danged thing was an integral part of throttle lever/handle, I couldn't just go buy a replacement slide cable and cut it to fit. So,tried to get the part....$49 plus $15 handling. Was so pi$$ed off I put it at the end of the driveway with a FREE sign on it, and went right out and bought a new Toro. That was twelve years ago. Toro does need new front drive tires, the treads almost gone.

Amen. If I could predict when I'm gonna break something on the chitspreader, tractor, skidsteer, etc., then ya, I could probably order it online cheaper and sit there with my thumb up my @ss in the meantime waiting for it to show up. Alas, as Mother Nature so rudely reminded me on Sunday, I don't always have that luxury. When I gotta have it, I gotta have it not in a few days when it doesn't matter anymore.

Times change...

I remember when all the "Sporting Goods" I ever needed could be purchased at the Holiday Gas Station.

They had hook, lines, sinkers, bobbers, spoons, and Rapalas in the summer with baseball bats, balls and gloves.
Orange hats and gloves in the fall.
Hockey sticks and ice fishing rigs in the winter.
All in those little stores.
I'm pretty sure they used to sell ammo.  Didn't they also sell guns at the gas station?
Or was that after Holiday bought out Burger Bros.?

Yes! Stop in for coffee and a box of Federal or Peter's Hi-power shotshells.....look at the snow sleds, the shotguns, pick up a box of .22 shells, a can of Jone fluid for yer hand-warmer, look at that "new" Remington model Nylon 66 .22, ...............those were the days I miss.

Yep, back then we only needed what we needed and stores sold just that.

Now everything you could possibly want is available at the touch of a button.  You don't have to do anything else and they'll bring it right to your front door - even on Sunday.

I remember looking at those Nylon .22 rifles Rebs.  Man I wanted one of them.  Never did get one.  I think it sounds like we do need stores.  I like L&M Fleet too.

I think Flat Farm does so well, because it harkens one back to those days, in a way....I never see people walking around like zombies in there with their noses glued to an iPad.

L&M is everything that Fleet Farm should be.  Man, I love that store!  (L&M, that is, but Fleet Farm is all I got near me.)

Never even seen one down here....or anywhere! We have a Fleet Farm, and used to have a Farm and Fleet...! That was hidden somewhere over in far SE CAWchester. Think I was there once, many years ago, for some chainsaw parts. Maybe Delmar's been in there.....

Mr. Sparkles is comfortable anywhere. Pulling chebbies outta mud puddles in the country, or cruisin' broadway in the big city.    :moon:
