I'll have to check out L&M sometime when I'm thru Brrrmidji or Park Rabids. We've had some Bomgaars stores pop up here in the original WalMart locations at Albert Lea & Waseca. Lotsa stuff especially clothing. Geared more towards smaller farmers than sportsmen here the way it looks. The rap on them was they were more expensive than Fleet Farm. Looking at their flyers tho they're usually competitive & on some things push FF pretty hard. Motto is what you need when you need it. Sounds familiar...

There's no more "real" hardware stores, either. With knowledgeable folks that would do all sorts of things...cut and replace glass, repair or make new screens for yer windows, doors, etc. Bins of nails, bolts, nuts, washers, grab what ya need and  put in the little brown sacks.
Spools of wire, rope, chain, tubing all pulled out along that big bench and cut to length. New ends crimped on hosed for ya. Used to have a great Hardware Hank here like that, until the owner got greedy and sold out to a corporate chain. Now it's run by kiddies who stare blankly at ya if ya go in and ask for a roman ogee bit for the router... "like, for yer computer? that router? "Like, we don't have electronics"....     :doah:

We've got Craftsman rider up here that's 25 years old that we haven't had any problems with & a self propelled walk behind down home that's at least 10. Reb, we like the local Ace for a small hardware store as we've used both the 1 down home & the 1 in GR quite a bit. Good service, a lot of stuff, competitive prices, it seems to me. It doesn't seem to matter whether we're in Bemidji or GR we almost always find a reason to stop at L & M. I tell some that if they don't have it, you don't need it. That & you can't walk by 2 workers in a row without at least 1 of them asking you if they can help you. We like FF too but the nearest for us is Mason City down home, & Bemidji up here unless we're over in Duluth. Boober's right, they were slowly going down hill until they bought Kmart & that put the nail in it IMO.
