Ok, just for you guys, I will give up the secret to winning prizes at these banquets.

Number one
Always take advantage of all pre banquet ticket sales. This can include bonus raffles that you can only get in by buying a package of some sort or just simply getting more tickets for the same money as you would get at the banquet.

Number two
Bring lots of cash so you can buy multiple tickets for each raffle they have at the banquet.  If they have a raffle that offers one ticket for $10 or 3 tickets for $20, go for the 3 tickets.  Did I mention bring lots of cash.

Number three
Plan to attend 5 or more banquets a year.  You will eventually find ones that are well run and more fun than others.

Good luck to you all.

Kinda lucky myself, some times.  :happybounce: The key for me seems to be to not care if I win or not & just think I'm donating a few $ to a good cause.

Congrats on a successful evening.

What's the best way to increase your odds of winning a $500 gun?  ... Buy $600 worth raffle tickets. :bonk:

Seriously, I do like going to outdoor habitat banquets.  Its fun when you or your buddies win something and you feel pretty good knowing the proceeds go where they should - unlike the MN State Lottery - that was originally supposed to go 100% to the environment!!!

The vast majority of what I win at these banquets gets donated for use at our MDHA banquet.

Here is an example. Last year I donated this gun for a raffle at our banquet.  As luck would have it, I won the gun.  Now, I once again
donated it for this years raffle.  I may not buy tickets for this raffle so people don't think it's fixed.  :rotflmao:

You :rotflmao:, but when the banquet organizers win too many big raffles, there can be grumblings of fowl* play.

However it is ALWAYS a good look when an organizer or volunteer gets their name drawn and they say, 'Pass, just draw another ticket."  You can't help but respect guys like that.

P.S.  That CVA you won/donated looks like a fun li'l handgun.  I like it when banquets offer unique prizes that guys might not already have in their cabinets.  I'm a big champion of diversity, you know!   ;)

*pun intended.

Steve-o,
Yes, I do hear "the club guys win everything" complaint.  However, most of the "club" guys donate a lot of the stuff and probably spend their cash like there is no end to it.  The "club" guys do not draw for any of the prizes but if they have 10 tickets to 1, they are bound to win more.  If someone really believes that, just ask them to join the banquet committee. I think they would soon change their tune.  I would also like to ask them why I don't see their name on some of the silent auction items.

No, I get it, DE.  There is a huge difference between perception and reality, and fair or unfair - people make judgments.

I miss the days when my daughters would come out with me.  I'd let them pick out a silent auction item and go all in on it and it was also fun to watch them get SO excited when we almost would win a raffle game.  Fun times.

i chair our delta waterfowl chapter, in the east metro.... and I never participate in any of our raffles.  Other committee members can , i don't discourage it, but I also don't encourage it.   There is another chapter of delta waterfowl in the west metro, and I go and participate in theirs.

Deadeye, you should come to our banquet sometime. Ya, we are waterfowl... but we have a little of everything. Our gun to participant ratio is 1-9 or so... we gave away opportunities to win 12 guns last week... and we only had 110 people there. We held back 2 guns. Next year we'll have more chances.  We have handguns, rifles and shotguns.  (no hi-powered air rifles)

we also have (in my opinion) good non-gun items. They tend to be geared more towards waterfowl... but there are plenty of things that aren't.  We generally have enough items in our general raffle that there is one item for each 2 people.

JohnWester,
Sounds a lot like ours. We have many non gun or hunting prizes.  Several chapter members (myself included) contact various people or business for donations.  Among the diverse prize this year we have, 40V Strikemaster auger, three day guides turkey hunt, fishing trip on Mille Lacs, Three day cabin rental on Mille Lacs, A 14 yard load of black dirt, deer feeder, and a bunch of rod and reels just to name a few.  For the ladies, we have around 50 "baskets" put together by non other than my wife.  I don't mind waterfowl stuff.  I just got HIP certified today.

Along with a half dozen beaver ponds, we have a big duck pond on our property.
I took these pictures last fall.
