  I take a 34.5oz Folgers plastic coffee container (new style) and take the plastic lid and drill 3/8 inch holes in half of it.  Fill the container half full with melting salt.  This makes a nice easy to hold container because it is molded for you fingers.  Then you sprinkle the salt out like you would a salt shaker.  It doesn't come out in clumps but spreads out nice and even and will melt your ice away.  Its easy to fill, store, grab and doesn't break like a plastic cup does.  I have made them for my home, work and employees.

Ol PUTZ has used A 1 gal plastic jug for years with the screw on caps. the caps keeps it sealed so it does not chunk up and sprinkles out real nice .
I have about A dozen of em filled up and on the ready.
I use milk jugs and  washer fluid jugs.
