The National Forest office sell’s tree tags for $10. That allows folks to drive into the Black Hills National Forest and harvest their own Christmas tree. We moved to South Dakota about 13 1/2 years ago and added this routine to our family Christmas tradition. Since we are traveling for Thanksgiving this year. The girls and I went Christmas tree shopping between my hunting on Saturday.

My wife and youngest daughter spotted a good Black Hills spruce way up the hill and I got to hang back with my 17 year old daughter and watch as mom & my youngest cut down our 2019 Christmas tree. I still had the pleasure of dragging the tree back to the trick.

It’s a fun tradition that we enjoy. We listen to Christmas music as we drive up into the Black Hills while drinking hot co-co & eating candy canes. We usually have a mild snow ball fight at some point as well.

My wife wanted a smaller tree this year (had to cut more than a foot off). Here is the final product.
