Reb, check out # 42. It's the resort that's only 2 doors south of us. They homesteaded most all of our bay & their history goes back to even earlier, 1905-1910 ish. Some interesting history of the region on their homepage, including the fact that they built the 1st schoolhouse in the area so their kids & the natives had a place to learn.

Yeah, I've heard that story quite a few times, usually at the lake assoc meetings, glenn. Capone stayed at what was a resort then on the point along the west side of the boot when he wanted to hide out. I think it was called Clearwater Resort & still operating when we 1st started going up there. We didn't know it back then but found out later that the neighbor just north of us was a retired FBI agent. Hmmmm.

Boy, I've got some pics and two books you'd really like! All about that, and you do know hte story about the big search for the gun he tossed in the lake, and the bag of dough that he squirreled away there, right? Oh, and it was Lutsen resort...........

Here's a tidbit...

Ya have now!  :rotflmao:  There was a documentary on TV some years ago about the search, it was pretty good. Not a hyped up one. I'll see what I can rustle up for ya.

I know of Lutsen & it's a big ski resort area up near Grand Marias on the North Shore. That's quite a ways from us but they were most likely using a lot of these type of spots up there back then.
