I gained permission to trap in a refuge to reduce the beaver population.  Nobody has trapped this part of the refuge for a long time.  There are 3 big lodges on the lake where I'm trapping now.  I've gotten an 80,78,and 76 pound adults.  Twelve beaver between 45 and 52 pounds and 3 kits.  I started with the bank dens due to open water around the lodges.  After 10 days the bank dens went dead.  I then set the channels leading through the cattails to the main lodges and snare poles along the shore line.  I will start trapping around the lodges after the next  cold spell.  Haven't seen any feed bed yet but a few of the beavers had Lilly pad roots in their mouths.  I also caught a large male otter and a huge mink.  I couldn't keep them, had to be turned into the refuge.  They dont want them trapped.  I'm cool with it since the beaver trapping has been a blast.

Nope,  average 10  bucks or less.  Skulls 3 bucks.  Tails for fishing bait ?

Real money is in the castor.  40 to 75  bucks per pound.

I love sharing my addiction.  I'll post pictures of how I skin the beavers Sunday if I get a chance.

Also a picture of the castor glands and where they are in the beaver.

Was at a game feed of a group I was part of and a buddy brought beaver.  It was pretty good as the cooks did it just right.  I had another piece and it was the most rank thing I ever ate.  I didn't want to spit it out in front of people so I swallowed it.  I then had to kill two strong bourbons to try and kill the taste.  Still tasted it all night.  Now I am more careful what beaver I eat.  Thinking he didn't get all of the castor out of it?????

It's very good.  Tender and extremely high in iron.  Need to be very careful when skinning.

Castor works for bears. Beaver are one of their favorite prey.
