Got any fishin' buddies dat always...

...break off on the "big ones?" Let 'em know that Dave Westphal finally caught it:

Funny how many of the exact same baits are wrapped up in there -- probably someone breaking off...retying...then making the same cast again lol. Been there!

My family and I had been fishin a favorite spot in da BWCA fur over 35yrs. Da kids named it (The Charlie Bar). It was a big fish spot and that's why my boys named it after  (Charlie Da Tuna) commercial. :doah:

So, anyhow when we drift & backtroll and we leave da anti reverse off on da reel. Dis is because as fish grab a live bait they kin run a brief bit without feelin any resistance Den Wammo! got um!

I'm postin dis cuz it relates ta da above story I posted here.

Many times we'd get a peck hit and feel reel start ta spin slowly as we drifted away. At times the rod tip would lightly bounce as da line was goin out. It's like a peck and drop, peck and drop! What it was is nylon rope below da surface attached to an anchor. We couldn't see this because it was to far down in deep water.

The reason I know dis is because many years later I snagged it and managed ta pull it free. After viewing It I noticed it was loaded wit 3/8 lindy sinkers,
#8 Aberdeen, mustad hooks, and 6 lb test Stren blue florescent line. and number 10 swivels.

Here is what I thought was da most interesting part! :doah:

 :bonk: .....
Da end of da rope where where it was connected ta da anchor never broke. There was a perfect loop (unbroken)??? Was dis a magic trick???

NO! What happened was dat da tie on hole on da anchor shaft rusted so bad that the nylon rope just pulled right off wit out breaking the tie on loop.

I kept the rope and gave it ta my oldest son as a memory keep sake. He's got it hangin in his shed.

There are places on Vermilion where I have thought of dropping a big piece of chicken wire tied to a couple cinder blocks....   Go back in a few days and restock my tackle box...
