Smelting

I haven't been smelting on the North Shore since my kids were small.. Does anyone smelt anymore?? I remember in college we used to go up after class on Friday and party all weekend .. Come back on Sunday with more smelt than we needed.. Clean smelt, fry them up,, drink cold beer,  cold slaw and french fries, rounded out the meal.. Go to bed early, wake up Monday,, hungover, stiff, and on the verge of pneumonia but what a time we all had.. QG

Not me but there are at least a few guys that frequent this site that are  smelt maniacs.

yes, quill, duluth's park point is the place to go.
they had a run like they havent seen in 20 years there last year. nice sized fish too.
about 5-6 weeks away now, I can hardly wait :)

I've never been, but would sure like to try it out sometime.  Actually my dad used to do it when we lived in Duluth.  I have no clue what you do, what they look like, nothing.  But I do know what snipe are, and what they look like...so don't be thinking I'm gonna fall for that!

   havent been smelting since i was the bait for the fish somewhere on the st. louis river!dont know if it,s done the same here as it is on the cowlitz river in longview washington?cold as hell ( if hell is cold ) and numb from the waist down, and between the ears to do this maniacal thing. but i am open to an invite to help drink beer and freez my nards off for some fun !!

yup sounds like fun I havent been smelting since I left Oregon a year ago Its cold as hell doing it but ooooooooo is it fun  :)

I didn't go last year, but since I only live 15 miles away, me thinks its time this year.
