NO not boar!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: so a couple weeks ago we split some flowers and gave them to a friend of my wife. Sha said there where all kinds of slugs in the dirt.

Today I pulled some annual flowers and there were slugs in the dirt also. I dug around the garden and nothing. Even by my carrots. seems to be just around the flowers.

Are they good/ bad??? How do you get rid of them???

Diatomaceous earth?  I’ve used that with some success on soft bodied pests. It pierces the surface of their bodies and they dehydrate. I’ve also heard crushed egg shells but never tried them.

:rotflmao: I thought this was a thread about shotgun slugs so I paid no attention to it!

They are definitely not good. They got into my carrots and potatoes a few years ago and worked them over underground. Not only did it disfigure the vegetables, the wounds they created allowed primarily bacterial rots to occur. I was PO'ed! We've had some dealings with slugs in recent years too in field crops, primarily soybeans. Seems the people who have been all gaga about cover crops forgot that it creates the perfect environment for slugs early in the season. They kill off the cover crops the slugs have been feeding on with a herbicide. Guess what happens and who gets a phone call next?  :rotflmao:

Purdue recommends a product called Deadline Mps (metaldehyde) for control in soybeans and another product mentioned elsewhere is Sluggo (not the Play Doh character featured in the adventures of Mr. Bill). Trying to get your hands on any of this stuff would likely be difficult as when we've had issues, none has been available.

The link gunner provided included a pretty good listing of possible home remedies. I could mail you some toads!

Someone asked me once too about eating slugs like snails. Not a good idea.

"Eating raw or undercooked slugs can lead to infection by a parasitic nematode called Angiostrongylus cantonensis, or rat lungworm."

 FW's cure is 80-90% silica https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth
pretty much made up my mind this is what I'm going to get but not sure if it pays at this point. If I find it I will get it and wait till next spring to use it.

My mom said she has a friend that dealt with them, she is going to ask how she got rid of them. Thinking these little bastards had something to do with my poor mater crop to. :angry2:

How about sprinkling a little salt on them.  What else have you to do?  Won't it dry them right up.  Don't use much so it doesn't get into your soil.

I was at Fleet Farm today looking for gopher traps. I’m being invaded by a vast herd of gophers. Anyway, I came across two products by Bonide specifically for slugs. About $15.00 for either one.
