So,nailed a big ole skunk last night out behind my barn,.22 long rifle stinger right in the melon,then the wind changed,not good....not so bright idea to douse carcus in diesel fuel,/match two hours later still smoldering and stinking the place up,neighbor comes along to school me where to shoot these critters so they don't spray,he claims belly shot or front of rear legs,anyone else have imput? seen another womdering around out back this morning,would hate to go through another warm night with window's open and shunk stink.

i shot a real youngin at the cabin once....it stunk.....buried it where it dropped. there also isnt a time i go to the cabin and dont think of the skunk ordeal in the shed we stored our bear bait in!!!!!! man was that interesting!!

i'm sure we got them damn things coming around down by our fish cleaning shack where we bury the gutz....no matter what you do to deter them them persistant buggers.....pee in the hole, dump soapy water, even used bleach and ammonia.

then there was the time when the kids where real young up there, my oldest come running up hollering skunk..she was so excited she coulnt prnounce it right........damn that was funny!!!!

Best thing that worked for me was to nail them in the head with the 12 gauge 2 shot, cover them with a 5 gallon pail. The next morning, take the post hole digger next to the bucket, go down about 2 feet, slide it over into the hole cover it up. Minimal smell.
I tried the gut shot thing and I think that was the worst.
I do have a live skunk trap and a drown box that works nice.

We got one in a live trap once, I also heard to shoot em in the stomach so I did with a .22. Thing is it didn't wanna die so I drilled it in the head, sure enough it sprayed.  I thought I buried it pretty deep,  the next day something dug it up and took it.. Badger maybe..

i've heard of guys that live trap them, put a blanket over the trap then drop the trap in water!!!!! apparently they dont spray with the blanky!!!!!!!

My brother lets them for from his fox traps.  He said you can tell if they are trusting you to let them go.  I guess when they are pulling away they aren't in spraying position.

Another theroy is they can't spray with all four leg's off the ground,guess they can't squeeze one out,but picking one up ain't happening.Neighbor caught one saturday in his box trap he set for wood chucks digging under his shed.holy cow what a crap show that was,little some beech had yellow spuze everywhere stinking to high heaven,pretty sure I seen the box trap tossed in the bonfire that night.

I think it's if they can't lift their tail they can't spray. A guy I used to work with had a resort along with working in town. He would trap them and if they can't lift their tail he said he would take them for a walk to the end of one of his docks, let them go for a swim and then head to work. He said never did find one that could hold its breath for eight hours.
