minnesawta....Eden praire ...Anyone check it out? I'm told  it makes cableas look like a JV sporting goods store and scheels has a good supply of shotgun ammo as my supply is running low with  a couple good weeks of pheasant hunting to be had and spring snow goose season approaching ,one can never have enough ammo.Thinking road trip sunday.

Anyone here with imput please respond.

Cabelas went to all Asian junk just like Gander did and we all know how that turned out.

I've been in the ones in Rochester & Waterloo quite a few times & I have to agree with Boar. I haven't been in the Cabela's in Owatonna in a long time, used to be in there 2-3 times a year.

Only been to the Scheels in Mankato. Some of their people really know their stuff. Some don't even know where to go to look for something.
I keep going back, though, so it must not be too bad.
I used to be cute and adorable. Then, I had my first birthday. Been downhill ever since.

Outside of feeding my fantasy about getting a new deer rifle and looking for ammo, I don't find myself needing to go to Cabelas or Scheels much these days.  I have everything I need and dupes of most things.

I'm closer to Fleet Farm than either Cabelas or Scheels, and FF is also a shadow of its former self since the Mills family sold out.  The only redeeming factor about FF is that when pu$$y stores like Dick's were getting out of the gun business, FF doubled down and increased the size of their gun department.   :happy1:  FF is also starting to get some ammo on the shelves, but the prices are still too damn high.   :doah:

Even though I don’t live anywhere close to Scheels, and have never been there, I dumped my Cabelas card and got the Scheels point card. I order from them online often. Last Sunday I placed an order, it shipped on Sunday, and I received it on Tuesday. I think it’s free shipping over $50.00. My wife was at the Eden Prairie store and said it was awesome!
Also, if you get their email, they have free shipping days.

I was at the Brooklyn Park FF yesterday and noticed they had pretty full shelves of ammo as well. Was at the Blaine store last week looking at Crossbows and they only had 4 in the store. Got that its after season but most of the sport goods aisles were bare. It almost made me cry! ☹  Dicks is worthless now and could use a big shot of viagra before I go back in that place! 😐

Yeah, but not a lot of variety with the FF ammo:  30.06, .300 win mag, some .223 and 9mm, lots of .22 and other defensive handgun ammo.  There were a couple options for 6.5 creedmoor.  But if you need (or want) something in other calibers, I see a long wait and will have to pay thru the nose if they ever hit shelves again.

I use to go to Capra's a bunch not so much anymore.  It's kind of odd they were really going strong for many years, they had Capra's outdoors on TV and videos with the sons. I could not understand why they never tried to expand and build a few stores?

Not expanding was one of the smartest moves IMO. They are mainly a Bass & Archery shop. Plenty of Tackle shops around, just be good at what you do and the business will be there.

Odd, not growing a business?  When was the last time you were in there? The store is dying.

Agreed Bobber,Joes is a great shop.... Well, both Jim and Joe (owners) are close friends, even tho Jim is the big game hunter in the family, got him dialed in to waterfowl hunting/sporting clays years ago,had to teach Jim how to use a goose call that didn't sound like he was killing a cat, selling $100+ goose calls one needs to be able to demonstrate,if you ever noticed all the critter mounts in the store, all shot by family members, even the huge Kodiak bear full mount Jim shot on a whim hunt and got lucky.

This is Jim's DIY elk hunt in NM public land, first hunt with his "creedmoor 6.5" lucky b---ard made book ,scored 366.

One of you said you have a Scheels credit card.  Does it work just like the Cabelas card does?

LPS, I have the Scheels card. I don’t know if it’s exactly like the Cabelas card, but you do earn 3 points for every dollar you spend at Scheels, and 1 point per dollar everywhere else. when you get to 2500 points you get a $25.00 gift card. Also, when you sign up for the card, you get an $85.00 gift card.

I signed up yesterday.  The interest is high but we pay it off right away anyways.  Will put the other one in a drawer.

Thing I prefer with the cabelas is you can continue to build points until you decide to use them. When they send you the 25.00 gift card it will expire after a certain amount of time.

According to Scheels, their gift cards do not expire. Cabela's however will cancel your credit card for lack of activity and your point balance goes bye bye.

I bought some Columbia hiking shoes from Cabela's as a Xmas gift last month as they had the best price & free shipping but that is the 1st thing I've gotten there in at least 4-5 years. Used to do a lot of Christmas shopping there.
