Good grief, our local media sure puts the spin on this tragic event,If I hadn't seen the original police body cam video....

So another protest before the facts come out people marching, blocking nicollet ave, why?

cops today are under fire, these cops were enforcing a " Homicide warrant" at 7am,no clue what the homicide was yet? But let's protest....firearm related?  video shows cop's entering no knock rather than bust the door in they had a pass key, before entering this apt, they yelled police/warrant more than once, once in the apt they encountered a guy holding a pistol....split second "what do you do? shoot first or be shot....curious how this unfolds, these ppl protesting haven't a clue what the facts are,it's all about this black 22 year old getting shot so let's protest, make demands...mob rule.

Appoligize for the rant, sick and tired of mob rule.

Yeah, the "power" of the mob has a lot to do with their reactions and responses.

By protesting they find a sympathetic ear in the media.

If the cops crack down on the ILLEGAL gatherings, it only proves their point (in their minds) that the 1st Amendment rights of minorities are being oppressed and that their protests are justified.
And its never the suspect's fault.

The mob as you put it are assuming the cops shot him for no reason. You are assuming they had a valid reason. Both are speculating, neither were there and one of the people there can't tell you anything because he's dead.

Question......You post about guns & ammo all the time. I know you target shoot and some is for hunting I would assume. Are you licensed CC? So if you fall asleep tonight and have a terrible nights sleep going and somebody bashes your door down, wakes you up, are you throwing your hands in the air? Crawling deeper under the covers? Or grabbing for your gun? Remember you are in a state of confusion, pulled from a restless sleep, what are you going to do? Did you hear anybody holler police, or did you just hear a bunch of noise? You have split seconds to decide.

You can say, I haven't done anything wrong and have nothing to fear. You can say why would anybody break in. You can say it's a safe neighborhood where I live. You can say all that but you are still likely to be reaching for that gun. If it's in your hand you likely are getting shot.

No dog in the race just pointing out you could be just as dead as this kid. With todays technology there is no reason in my mind for a no knock warrant.

No DB I'm not going to debate with you and I'm not assuming anything,as you say
"I don't have a dog in this fight" either,it would be nice if we get the facts before the media spins this tragic situation, doesn't take much to get the animals fired up.

Further cops didn't bash the door in,guess your assuming, they had a pass key.

You don't have to debate with me. I just asked some questions. I saw the same video you did.

I've mentioned here before - I do not have CC for exactly these reasons.

A) I am not trained to be proficient with a firearm under stressful situations, and

B) If you are the victim of a violent criminal with a gun - the attacks are generally sudden and violent and they have the drop on you.  The most likely outcome of reaching for a gun at this point will be you getting shot and killed.

If someone invades my home with a gun - no bravado here - I believe my best chance for survival is to comply with the wishes of the invader.*  And if the Police (mistakenly) bust down my door and yell, "Freeze, hands in the air!", I will comply with them too.

Now, if I had committed crimes and/or was wanted on felony arrests warrants and was willing to shoot someone else rather than get caught - then my strategy would be different.  I would be walking around the house with a gun stuck in my waistband at all times.

*As the world gets dangerouser and dangerouser, I reserve the right to change my mind.  In your home invasion scenario, I do not sleep with gun by my bed.  (They are locked up.)  It used to be a thug would tie you up, rob you, and then leave.  Increasingly you hear cases where thugs will shoot the homeowners just to rob the home of what amounts to nothing compared to the lives lost.

IMO, and this is one of the few times I'll say it regarding these situations, I don't need to wait for all the facts. I've defended the police on many of these situations, waiting for the facts, but I am NOT a fan of no-knock warrants. These should be outlawed across the board...plain and simple. I don't see ANY reason why these are allowed, especially in the good 'ol USA. If someone came breaking into my house, I couldn't say there may or may not be a gun in my hand as well.

Your point is well taken.  But what are the coppers to do if they go to arrest a suspect in a violent crime, have every reason to believe he is armed and dangerous, they knock on the door and shout "Police, open up" and nothing happens?

In this case this "no knock" is being over played, cops had a pass key, when door was opened they announced they're presence "before entering as seen on the video...surprising a possible violent perp (hence the homicide warrant) gives the cops a leg up and rightfully so,this tragic event didn't just happen on a whim...homicide with a weapon warrant? most likely they had the perp on they're radar, had to have in order to obtain the warrant, again the facts matter and the media spins.

Probably the same tactics they use during all other encounters: negotiators, SWAT, sniper, tear gas, or many other resources they have. Heck, drive an armored van through the wall. If they announced themselves and gave fair warning, that's good in my books.

I'm a volunteer firefighter...when someone calls and says their cat is stuck in a tree, we let them know it'll get hungry sooner or later... ;)
