Plans and expectations verses reality

I planned a to bow hunt yesterday. Prepped by showering with scent free soap and headed to my property. Once there I checked wind conditions and selected a stand that would be the least impacted by the wind direction. I planned to get in the stand early (2:30) just in case the bucks were chasing does. After changing into my scent free hunting clothes, I started out on my mile plus wheeler ride to where I planned to park. From there it's about 250 yards to the stand so I would carry my outer clothes and sneak into the stand. That was the "Plan".  In reality this is what happened. About 2/3 the way to the stand I ran into a fallen clump of red oak. Three stems from 5-15 inches lodged above the trail with no easy way around it. So, back to camp to get the chain saw. Halfway through the 30 minutes of cutting the saw ran out of gas. I managed to spill some on my hands when filling the saw. Finally got the trail cleared but now I'm sweating up a storm but should not be a problem as my clothes are now smelling of gas and oil. I got to the stand an hour late with my hopes dashed a bit. "Expectations", a parade of big bucks following does past my stand. "Reality", I didn't see a deer, however a trail camera near a different stand showed several deer passing by during my sit.

Although no deer showed up it was a good sit non the less.


Lots of nature to watch and admire.


Never even though about picking up my bow.
