The winds have gone down some but the snow is coming down harder.  Our trees may just be blocking the wind too.  Update:  Away from the house the wind is blowing hard.

Starting out to be a nice morning here so far altho I can see the wind's starting to pick up. Hard to believe it'll be 5 above tomorrow morning especially given the highs yesterday. Was 68 in Waseca & at the ranch, 70 in Owatonna & Albert's Leaf along with a 71 in the metropolitan Bugtussle heat island measured on the Buick thermometer. They planted some corn, soybeans and wheat yesterday at the SROC just to see what happens. We get a day of cold tomorrow & Thursday spring is back on again.   :happy1:

Down to 8 here.  I plowed some here so the wife can get in for lunch.  Will finish it all when the snow is done.  Still snowing and blowing pretty good here.  I see the flakes are getting smaller.  We have a good 6" here.  Drifts maybe a foot and a half by buildings.

I bet the wheat will have a chance Dotch. I'm not sure what year it was but I remember my dad saying he planted small grain in February once. He said it was so nice he thought he had to. He said he ended up replanting it. Don't think he planted radishes though.

Ya I'd say with the corn & beans, the Vegas odds are not good. Even with the wheat, it could be hit and miss. Norbert Schultz sowed some wheat west of Bugtussle the end of February in 1987. We'd seen days similar to the recent warm spell that year and the ground was fit. When we got into March, the weather started dragging its feet. The ground froze again down about an inch and he was panicked. Took him out and we pried the frozen crust off the surface with a screwdriver. Could see sprouted wheat seedlings just underneath it. They were alive but it made us wonder how much more they could take. Fortunately the cold let up shortly afterwards and the ground didn't freeze any deeper. The field made it & yielded ~ 55 bu./acre. It looked nice but there was no yield advantage over the wheat that was drilled later in the spring that season.

Temp has dropped to 28. Talking 1"-2" of snow down here now. Lucky us.

I see dat. Got the daffodils covered. They had flower buds on them already. Seeded another row of radishes.  Saw there were a few of the January planting germinating so couldn't help myself.  :coffee:

Had -2 at the ranch which was about 7 degrees colder than advertised. Up to 9 above presently and the wind is down significantly. Closed the flap on the lambing barn last nite as it was getting pretty drafty with it open. The ewes were huddled inside. Didn't want some idiot dumping newborn lambs outside anyway. 50's tomorrow & Friday, 60's Saturday with close to 70 Sunday. Back to March with some possibility of precip Sunday nite into Monday. Highs Monday & Tuesday in the mid-40's. The normal high for those days is only 33 so not complaining.

It's just like Barry said:
