Congrats.  I wonder what happens to a buck that it only grows those goat horns.  Did it look like it was 1.5 years or maybe older?

Prolly finished up in Sconnie today.  Tried a couple 2-man push/posts.  Right at the end of my push, hunters on the adjoining property had the same idea and were doing a drive in the opposite direction.  I waved at the hunter and kept going.

I linked up with my buddy who was posting and as he was packing up his chair, we watched a big deer squirt out behind the drivers, who never saw it.  Unfortunately, the deer stayed off the reservation and we didn't have a shot anyway.  Still, if the deer would have played it differently, it would have been fun to score a deer from someone else's drive late season when deer don't seem to want to move on their own.

I went bow hunting today. Stopped at the cabin to change clothes. Took the wheeler for a mile and a half ride parking about 1/3 mile from a stand and walked the rest of the way. Snow covered the ground and drifted in the breeze. I saw squirrels and birds but no deer. After sunset I made the reverse trip only to see 6 deer all within 50 yards of my cabin. They continued to feed in the field until I drove away.

I used to love doing it when I was a kid.  My Dad's and brothers too.  Now it is just another thing that has to get done.  It is fun to get them out though.

Minnesota Sportsmen Blame Wolves for Lagging Deer Harvest

Some hunter are calling on the state to better manage its wolf populations, but the DNR says winter weather is the more likely cause of recent deer declines

Wildlife managers in Minnesota are hearing from whitetail hunters upset with a decline in deer season success rates that they blame on the state’s population of gray wolves. A series of public meetings organized by a recently formed group called Hunters for Hunters has drawn crowds of disgruntled sportsmen who want the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to do more to limit wolf numbers.

Billed as “Wolves Versus Deer: Who Will Win,” the meetings have attracted some hunters who want to vent about poor hunting of late and some who are advocating more dramatic responses, from shooting wolves to boycotting next year’s deer season.

“We’re plagued with wolves, and they will not do a thing,” one hunter told Minnesota Public Radio after a Dec. 6 meeting in Carlton, referring to the MDNR. “They say it’s a federal issue. So, I think it’s time the hunters take care of the problem themselves. Whatever it takes to get rid of them.”

Yeah, and the DNR says we don't have any cougars in MN either.   :coffee:

Well  :pouty: with the lack of deer, the wolves won't be able to procreate  as effectively so that will help.

The dnr may say that but the wardens in wolf country  dont! :coffee:

Wolves will, and do, follow the food source. The range has expanded greatly over the past 10 years.

Here is the 2022 DNR survey:

Funny how they say that over a period of time the wolf range more than doubled while still holding to the 2700 number.

I can honestly say, being a deer processing person, numbers for zone 2 were slightly down. BUT, deer coming in from zone 1, were WAY down.

So, not to be a jerk or anything.... but that's money out of my pocket that I could have made.

All because some tree hugging group likes  :censored: wolves.

Maybe 🤔 it's a conspiracy theory? More wolves, less deer.. therefore, less hunters.... equals less guns....

Food for thought....
