Looks like the Quick Line Bowl in Detroit on Dec 26.

There are 80 teams going to bowls.....Gophers are number 80.
That'll impress next year's potential recruits.   :coffee:

The first Gophers football player to decide to leave the program this winter is a big one.

Starting quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis said Tuesday he intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Kaliakmanis’ decision comes a day after the U offered a scholarship to University of New Hampshire graduate transfer QB Max Brosmer in the portal.

That's the blessing and the curse of the transfer portal.  Bottom-feeding programs are damned-if-they-do and damned-if-they-don't use it.

Kids today don't really want to compete.  They want to be rewarded.  If they bring in competition, the snowflakes melt and leave.  G'luck, Athan and Cole.

Its kinda too bad the NCAA can't just do away with this charade of having student/athletes.  Each college or university should be allowed to have a club team they sponsor and spend as much money as they like.  Divide Division I into several levels/leagues - like soccer in England.  Club teams win the right to get promoted into the next level and losing teams are demoted if they lose.

You'd think the touchy-feely administrations would love this because they could give out a National Championship Trophy for each level.  Everyone's a winner!

Athan might be back, I mean who in D1 would take him as a improvement over what they have? New kid has only been OFFERED he hasn't accepted anything. Why would he come to a program with no receivers or a team so offensively limited they are offensive? Oh, I forget....he would get to "Row The Boat" and play for the boy genius with a chance to be elite!   :coffee:

Sooner or later the NFL is going to have to actively join this "college football".  It is a minor league team that is making a lot of money for a lot of people and organizations, schools, etc.  Time to just admit it.

The Gophers are going bowling in Detroit. The NCAA announced Sunday that Minnesota will play Bowling Green in the Tuesday, Dec. 26 Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field.

Minnesota has played in the Quick Lane Bowl twice before, in 2015 when they defeated Central Michigan and in 2018 when the topped Georgia Tech. This year's Quick Lane Bowl will kick off at 1 p.m. CT and be televised on ESPN.

Minnesota will not have Athan Kaliakmanis at quarterback for the game because he's expected to enter the transfer portal when the portal opens on Monday. That likely means Cole Kramer will be the starting quarterback, with walk-on freshman Max Shikenjanski being the backup.

Freshman quarterback Drew Viotto is also entering the transfer portal, so the Gophers will be thin at quarterback for the bowl.

The Gophers on Sunday night landed a coveted quarterback for 2024 when New Hampshire's Max Brosmer announced on the X platform that he has committed to Minnesota as a graduate transfer.

He is 1 of 3 finalists for the Walter Peyton Award in the FCS

Fleck is looking to bolster a passing offense that was one of the worst in major college football. The Gophers ranked 126th of 133 FBS teams with an average of 153.2 passing yards per game. Kaliakmanis' completion percentage of 53.1 didn't crack the top 100 nationally. The Gophers are averaging 20.2 points, which ranks 116th in FBS.

K, so Brosmer has one year of eligibility left, then what?

And what about the rest of the offense?  I couldn't tell you if the pass blocking or receivers are any better than Kaliakmanis was.

But I 'spose in today's college football bottom feeding programs need to take things one year at a time.  PJ only has six more years to figure this thing out.   :rotflmao:

Gopher Nation is on pins & needles Glenn as a victory in Oil Change Bowl will launch the Gophers into the top 100 (maybe) of the 132 team division.

Elite status is within their grasp.   :coffee:

There will be lots of close-ups and piped in crowd noise. I'd be surprised if there were 5,000 people there including those grabbing the free tickets that will be given away.

I can't confirm (but it sounds about right) that the U chartered 3 busses from Mpls to Detroit. 1 for the band, 1 for the cheerleaders, 1 for the administration. The team was asked to hitch a ride with their parents or just hop into the portal and skip the game, nobody would notice. Mr. Fleck took a chartered jet.

Dutchy, I heard if they won, they were promised a free backhaul trip home from Detroit by the Wolverine meat packing plant. No promise on cleaning the livestock trailer out first.

If i'm not mistaken is this the Bowling Green where the Corvette factory is?

If so did the Governors make a friendly bet? I can see Walz getting a Corvette, while he only had to put up a criminal as a prize.

The Goofs up by 6 wit' 2:30 to play.   :bonk:

EDIT:

And...  They close out a 6 point win.  Good for them.  We can rail all we want on PJ or the U for cheaping-out and making stupid decisions, but at the end of the day today, those young men played to win the game, and they did.   :happy1:

It was a good game.  Got close a few times but the Gophs kept moving the ball.  So what is the deal with our QB.  Will he not be with us for the 2024 season?  Is he just a fill in for this game?   He can throw that ball a mile.  Not way up in the air like Dobbs and Mullens did.  He zings it.
