Needed to cut down several small (12 to 15 foot) pine trees.  To close to the new cabin.  Put on a brand new chain.  Man I sure love new chains.  Wicked sharp and fast easy cutting.   Well one of them little pines tipped the wrong way.  As I reach up to grab a the tree with me right hand the saw hits my left leg above the knee. Good thing the saw was almost already stopped.   Only 2 teeth got me.  Still ended up with nine stitches.  Wife has already ordered me a pair of chainsaw chaps.

My buddy Bill has a scar on his thigh from a similar incident. Wears chaps now when it's serious chain sawing.

Got a scar across my left knee. Usually I would put on the chaps, cut wood, haul it to the splitter, and then finish the day splitting. On this day I broke the routine and stopped to split some wood first without chaps. Then I walked back to the woods and proceeded to cut a standing dead oak. When it started to fall, I jumped back to avoid the fall and swung the saw down where it caught my knee. Fortunately not serious, but it sure ripped up my jeans and bloodied them up.
Lesson learned—I never start the saw without chaps.

This wasn't serious sawing.  5 minute job max.   Just wanted to drop the few tiny trees.  Never again.  Starting to feel the pain now.  Couple of ibuprofen and back to bed.

Darn DK. You are certainly lucky it didn't go deeper. I have no chaps either. We certainly take many things for granted. Hope you heal up fast.

You are lucky DK.  We used to wear chaps where I worked for safety but I do not own any.  I do think about it frequently.  I have cut my jeans before and got only a scratch.  Yes I do take it for granted.  Be careful.

The real question here is, did you dull the chain on your steel knee. Sorry I know it could have been much worse, but I couldn't help myself. Glad your stitched up and thanks for posting this as you can see most of us will now be more cautious when using a chainsaw.
