500 permits for a zone as big as 197 or 172 ain't many.  I haven't bothered to call the DNR to find out how many applicants each zone gets, but they used to tell you.  I'd like to find out how many square miles of dry land each of those zones have, but that is too much work.

25 permits for 169...  There are a few other zones north of zone 196 that also only have 25 permits.   Why do they even bother?

thats to get people to buy a license........ it'll be interesting to see just how many hunters will be in that area!!!!! there claiming because of the several years of harsh winters as to the reason so limited permits.......of course they fail to admit or acknowledge the wolf issue.  :doah:

Steveo, it s as simple as going to the DNR website to find out how mant permits are issued in each zone. both my brother and i found it there.

I saw where they list the number of permits for each zone, but do they say how many people apply for them?

Also, afterwards when they list the harvest totals, you can see what the success rate was.  Last year, in zone 197 they had 500 permits, but ONLY 173 antlerless deer were registered.  That really tells you how many deer are NOT there anymore.

i've never inquired on how many apply, but know it takes 3 years to get drawn again from past experiences.........and i was NOT one of the 3 that registered an anterless deer!!!!!!! that hurts when that happens, but thing is i've seen plenty of deer the past 2 summers in the area.

think it wa last year i sent the DNR an email..........they did sent me the statistics for anterless harvest for 197 and 169. problem up there i am being told is alot of people apply for the permits that dont ever intend to hunt so others dont get permits......yea PETA types!!!
