I don't recall the mistakes Motzko was referring to but from what I seen Close let in 2 soft goals to keep Boston in the game. We're talking about a goalie that usually plays really well.  I kept shaking my head even more as the game went on, couldn't help to think back to last yrs championship game when they sat back and played defensive style game in the 3rd. Not sure of Motzgo's contract, but things might need to change...

They don't change mens hockey coaches until they get 10 years with no titles.

Unless they could pry the guy away from Duluth what would be the sense of making a change. Fact is the base isn't nearly as fervent since the money grab to the Big 10.

 I give it 2yrs tops, he might take the team into a regional but he doesn't have what it takes for a title. AD'S get restless.

      I see that 4 MSU Mankato hockey players signed pro contracts.

      Not sure how I feel about this transfer portal thing. It's different.

Players signing pro contracts have nothing to do with the portal. Pro teams will often draft a young kid and let him sit in college to develop them and then sign them when they think they are ready. If it was pressure from kids transferring in thru the portal system the coach likely ran them off.

      I get that. But, if I understand things correctly, it used to be that, if you transferred, you had to sit out one year. Now, you're eligible the first year. You could transfer four times during your college career.
      I suppose, if I were a coach or athlete, I would like it. Like everything, advantages and disadvantages.

      College hockey season will soon be upon us. I see my Mavericks start their season in just three weeks at Michigan. Hope springs eternal.

      My Mavs lost tonight. Good game, though. Lost to North Dakota 3-2.

Gophers beat UMD 7 - 5 last nite. After jumping out to a 4 - 0 lead in the 1st period, the Gophers let up and almost let UMD back in the game. Their defense and goaltending looked suspect, again. Rodents lost a bunch of players in the transfer portal to the Mavs. Interesting. The Gophers got a bunch from elsewhere themselves so no biggy.

      I'm not sure what happened. Mavs were up 2-0, got a delayed (32 seconds) 5 minute major penalty that wasn't called against them until after their third goal, nullifying the goal. They lost their momentum after that.

      Another good game on Saturday night. Mavs won 3-0. An empty net goal. Mavs didn't do well on the face-off department.

i watched the #4 gopher hockey team last night just trash #6  Michigan 6-0.

      We watched our 15th ranked MSU Mankato Mavs play Bowling Green. Mavs won 4-1.
      That Maverick goalie is really good. Alex Tracy has been the CCHA goalie of the week several times. I think I read this past week, he is also the NCAA goalie of the week.

Well, we had to watch Rudolph so we missed a lot of the Gophers thrashing of Michigan. Always good to beat Michigan, same as Ohio St. Those two schools should do well with the NIL thing. They've been doing it for decades!

yea, the announcers mentioned that about a few of the Michigan players. they did say one of the Gophers goalies was a transfer from Penn st i believe.  he wasnt in goal last night.........that guy in goal looked pretty good!!!!! AIEREY i think his name was???

i stand corrected...just read an article about them........there 15-2-1......and they got #1 Michigan St up next!!!!!!

      Latest rankings are out. My MSU Mankato Mavs are ranked #12 in the nation. Go Mavs.

the gophers were ranked #4 and shut out #6 michigan both games.......would think they'd move up. hopefully they can take care of business with #1 michigan tech!!!

TT......how long hac Mankato been a division 1 hockey program?????? they seemed to be moving forward fast!!!!! as long as the gophers keep them in check!!!!!!

      Glenn, I think MSU Mankato has been D1 since the late 1990's. If memory serves, Mankato and the Gophers and Badgers were in the WCHA at the same time. Always a packed house when they came to town.
      This coming weekend the Mavs host Lake Superior State. #1 and #2 in the CCHA conference.

      I see Michigan State is at Minnesota. I'll be watching my Mavs play Lake Superior State. Look at the stats and MSU should do well but, let's be real, players and coaches don't put much stock in stats.
