I have no idea what that is or why it is a thing.

Doesn't the NBA have some mid season thing that also means nothing? I think the Lakers won it this past year proving it means nothing whatsoever.

WCCO did a short pc on it this AM, so I looked it up.........................Not only do the Lynx get to claim the Commissioner's Cup trophy, they'll also go home with a solid pay day.

The winners of the Commissioner's Cup are awarded $500,000, about one-third of the WNBA salary cap. With 12 players on a WNBA roster, each player will get around $41,000, and the MVP of the game — Collier — gets an additional $5,000. Coinbase, the sponsor of the Commissioner's Cup, added $120,000 in cryptocurrency to the prize pool so every player on each team will get $5,000, so there's some prize for the Liberty.
That's a pretty nice bonus to those players as they're not paid anywhere near what the men are. :happy1:

Yeah, all they hype this year was about Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese and there wasn't much focus on the Lynx having a pretty good season.

It's gotta be better than the MLB game my wife kept watching the other nite between the Yankees & KC. Can't easily watch the Twins during the season so why not watch the Lynx? Besides, the neighbor girl played for them for about 5 minutes a few years back!  :happy1:

 I didn't think that sounded right when I posted it. It was too long between games & since it's a 5-game series it usually is 2-2-1, so there would be another game in NY before they come to the Target Center. Well, WCCO had a pc on it today & Game 2 is in NY today @ 2. ABC has the coverage. I'm blaming ESPN for having the wrong schedule posted.       ;)

The refs have been getting a lot of heat this entire series & it was no different last night. A controversial call at the end of regulation allowed NY to tie the game with 2 FTs. They then went on to win it in OT, 67-62.

The WNBA is going thru growing pains.

I was listening to some analysis.  For years the league was more or less happy to play their own brand of basketball in relative obscurity.  They all wanted more money, but there was no one criticizing them for what they did or how they played.

The Caitlin Clark/Angel Reese rivalry put a new spotlight on the game - from top to bottom - and many don't enjoy the extra scrutiny.  I'm sure the refs are a part of that.  They'll get thru it.  The game will continue to get better.

True, the Lynx only shot 37% for the game, 16% on 3's, but they did make 7 out of 8 FT's. NY's line was even worse, 31%, 9%, & 84% from the line. They did go to the line 25 times though, compared to just 8 for the Lynx. To be fair, there was pretty big difference, 44-33, on the boards too.

I didn't watch a minute of it all year so take my comments for what they're worth. I listened to a bunch of radio guys reporting on the game and series. These are both national and local. The one thing pretty consistent when you toss out the "homer" comments on both sides is the Liberty won and the Lynx loss. From what I gather the Lynx loss can be attributed directly to who they see in the mirror.

It's Reeves job to cry about the result....she is very good at that.

The only thing I watched of the WNBA was on YouTube of the little white rooky girl getting beat up, eye goughed, and thuged on the court all season.   :surrender:

The WNBA Player's Association opted out of their CBA yday. They have 'til the end of next season, 10/25/25, to get a new deal done or there could be a lockout.
