I've only heard this from 2 other people and both of these guys are affiliated with another site.

They both say that MNO does not have any quality information.

What do you all think? Aside from us having fun and the occassional jokes, are you finding quality info on MNO, keep in mind we only have 1100 members and are only 1 year old.

I browse our site and a few other Mn fishing sites and can honestly say, I see no difference in quality posts, I just think our information is spread out in different areas, being that we are a total Outdoors site, and not just a fishing site.

I would like our members honest opinion, can we do better?

What would you like to see? Should we add more Outdoor related forums or should we concentrate on building the ones we allready have?

Thanks for your comments.

i belong to another well known site that might
have more members than this site, a lot of
bickering there on a few forums. a lot more
friendly here. but like any forum you have to
take some things you read with a grain of salt
mno will do good! not to copy another site,
but a home repair forum might be good.
but i think it looks good the way it is.

I like MNO the way it is Pat. I think there is some great, helpful information here at MNO and it's given by helpful, generous, kind people who want to help you.

I like that I can come here for my outdoors needs (deer hunting, open water fishing, camping, bbq'ing) but also there are outdoors people here who also have similar interests and hobbies beyond that which we can also share here in other forums.

I would not look to change anything. Let's just keep building on what we already have, and see where the road takes MNO. I'm not against evolving and adding things as we go, I just don't see a need for any great renovations at this point. Just my two cents worth though...

I think that there are a ton of changes that can and will be made to MNO to make it better as the site grows. Don't let some fool on another site make you think twice about your/our mission. It makes me a bit upset that someone would be bad mouthing MNO in this way. My thought is that they are prly scared that MNO will take off even faster than it already is,  so they say this crap to turn people away. Keep up the good work and good things will come!

Ps. I'm a big guy... If you find out who these people are let me know... I'll see if I can't adjust some attitudes... :donatello:

What it is I believe that these other two may have been thinking

MNO as you said is not just a hunting and fishing site. Many diehard outdoorsman think that baseball, football, Nascar, Etc are not what they log on for.

The other day I logged in and the home page had 7 threads that were on Nascar. For some that came here for hunting & fishing Info...that may look to them, that this is not as serious of a hunting and fishing site as others. It's all in what you want to make it and what kind of folks you want to draw to the site.

You might talk to another two guys and they would want more stick and ball sports info or car and truck info.

Whats that saying...opinion's are like &^%$# everybody has one

This ship is like any other, it has a streering wheel. You can always change course should you head into rough/unwanted waters. For now, most of your passangers are not complaining and untill they do I guess you can stay a steady course.

 Take Care, Chuck

Ill be honest, I preffer the fishing info, as I spend about 75% of my year fishing. But no one is giving up any good fishing spots, just hints and teases about where they caught what.  Thats understandable with todays equipment and technology of information like the internet, we see way too many people flooding to areas like URL and it effects the fishing. If you don't think the crappie fishing in URL has been effected, ask those who fished there 4 years ago as a case in point.

Sure I enjoy NASCAR thread, but could care less about feild trials for dogs, or what sporting clays range is doing for events next week.

I belong to a couple other sites as well. Some of them try to cover a wide range of area, but have become a "pool 4 clique" where  no one elses opinion or input matters.  Or they are SO broad ranging, many members only frequent 1 or two of the sub boards. In my opinion, this site is becoming very focused on the Twin cities to Brainard part of the state.

Just try to provide solid info, keep it freindly and all should go well.

I came to this site for ice info , and fishing info . Well i am still here . I find the forums to be very diverse and interesting. There is a lot of info here  for everyone. I think it is a testament  to the dedicated  un- paid   folks that help make this site what it is !!  Remember   one thing ,  this sit is FREE!!!!!!
This site is growing and changing as it grows. You add forums when you think somebody would enjoy them. You find moderators  from the  memebers  pool . What more could an outdoors person want ???
Keep up the good work .  SCOTT

To be honest there are many threads that I do not go into. Simply because my interests are different from some peoples, but with all the topics, we have here we, get many different people with different knowledge and backgrounds crossing paths and learning from one another. I for one have learned thing here because of that. There is about 58guests and 25 users on MNO as I am writing this. This site averages about 50 guests at any given time during the day. Therefore, the big Question is why they are here if they are not learning something interesting to them. The answer is simple; they are learning or laughing about the outdoors world with others like them self?s. I would assume that is what the staff works so hard for here at MNO, and you do not need to worry about a thing.

;DThe only thing this site does needs is a set date to get everybody together to go 4 wheeling  ;D

I had been a member of other sites before I stopped at MNO.  I don't go anywhere else now.  I made that decision before I became staff here.  There is just something special about MNO.  Everyone makes you feel so welcome here.  If you have a question, you don't hesitate to ask it here, because you know that many people will be quick to answer it for you.  I think there is plently of great information to be found here.  We continue to add more every day.  Thanks for MNO!

Pat this site is great the way you guys manage it.  You probably will make changes but be sure those are MNO's ideas -- not the ideas of some competitor.

I like the variety of forums.  No I don't read them all but I do read many regularly.

As far as quality info, I was wondering about duck identification info and read through that thread and WAA LAA -- there it was.  How about ice depth reports -- very handy.  And for some of us who are not mechanicly inclined  :whistling: (not to mention my name) there are MANY MANY other guys who are.  I could go on and on here.  There is TONS of quality info and I ALWAYS feel welcome here.  As a matter of fact, I plan to contact someone I met on this site for help with some hunting equipment this week.

Just keep on your own path and don't let anyone lead you astray.
Thanks for all the great work you and all the staff members do.

If you have a question about home improvement just ask it here on the general discussion board. I am sure someone will have a good answer for you. If you have a question on just about anything just ask...

But as far as changing the site to make someone oppinion valid...no.

In fact this site is so good I am just THIS CLOSE to making it my Home Page.

Its a newer Board.  These things take time.   I wouldn't sweat it at all.

I belong to a couple of other Boards as well, and check into the various Boards when I have downtime during the week.

One of the larger sites that I know several of us spend time on was just a pup when I joined it.  A bunch of us were refugees from the DNR's board when they closed it down, and headed over to Rick's site looking for a home.  I like having options, and am spending a bit more time here on MNO as things start to take off.

Keep at it fellas.  More members = more input.

Pat, I dont make alot of posts here but do alot of reading and my opinion is dont change a thing!!! This is one of the first places I come when I get on the ole puter, every one has an opinion and they express it, doesnt matter what it is, its nice to read what people have to say and we even learn from those opinions. This site is FUN and makes you want to come back time and time again...and it can only get better as time goes on!!! Like my mom used to tell me...."if its not broken, dont fix it!!!"

I think it's a much more laid back attitude than a couple of other sites I used to visit.  But, in all honesty, I see much less posting regarding fishing and hunting info than those sites.  That's not a knock.  I like this site for more entertainment than info.  I also have to say I usually check the "Home" page for the most current stuff and often don't go into the "Forum" stuff where I may find more info posted recently.

Another thought. We all come here for the hunting, fishing and outdoors info that we know is here...but it is so nice to have other things that we can learn, chat, and read about here at MNO as well. I am an avid deer hunter, I also fish and enjoy doing other things outdoors related...but I do have other interests and hobbies as well. The more diverse the topics available here at MNO, the more time I spend here instead of somewhere else.

I do feel that the hunting, fishing and outdoors related topics should be the bread and butter here at MNO, but there is no reason we cant have some other stuff here to "fill in the cracks" as well.

Anyone else feel this way?

The more ways we can "entertain the brain" the better!  Yes, we do need to work on the information a bit-but we are still a growing site!  You have to learn to walk before you run!  A couple of things I truely appreciate here is:

-Staff is not the only members to reply
-Staff does NOT cram sponsored product down the members throats
-Everyone is treated as an equal here
-No clickes to belong to
-Open discussion about pretty much anything (within reason of course)
-MNO is family oriented, something fairly rare in forums sites
-It's the combined efforts of staff & members who continue to make MNO what it is today!

I've had GREAT days out fishing when I've caught nothing!  To me it's all about being outdoors in the fresh air, looking at what nature has given us, and soaking it all in.  If I happen to catch fish-that's a bonus!

Just remember it's called fishing, not catching for a reason! ;)

This is truly the best site. I belong to another site and have been on there once since MNo. The other site is primarily hunting which is what I am into but they are uptight and always say the same thing. You need big axpensive supplies to hunt. Now at MNO people here say hunt with what you have, be safe, and here are some tips. That is the best attitude to have.
For me I am mostly into hunting and camping. I fish a little. But I read most of what is on here and have learned many things about the things that I do and the things I dont do. I have read so many good opinions that I want to try some of these other things, so to me that is great info to get someone to try different things.
I have also noticed that the main talked about topic depends on the time of year which makes total sense. My other site is basically all hunting and if you read it in March you get all excited for hunting that is still several months away.
O.K. so what I am saying is MNO is my favorite site and I like it the way it is.
