This might be a tough one for some...What is your favorite activity hunting or fishing?

Definitly bow hunting for white tails.  Im not the most experienced or successful but its so peaceful and relaxing during the fall months before firearms starts up.  I also get a lot of satisfaction out of the practicing and preparation that goes into it.

Question for the guys who's favorite activity is deer hunting. Is it frustrating for you - because the season is so short? Or is it that much more precious because you have a short window to prepare and enjoy it?

My favorite activity is fishing, but one thing I notice is as the open water season runs out in the fall I get that much more active trying to squeeze in as much fishing as I can before it gets too cold.

The season is shorter then the fishing seasons (open water and ice).  We combine activities to prepare for our whitetail season.  During December or Jan. our party will head up to URL to ice fish, but we also head out to our deer hunting areas and mark the main trails that the deer are using in the snow (maybe even find a shed or two).  In the summer we will put out a salt or mineral block (while we are up at the cabin open water fishing).  In the fall we will look for good deer sign while checking our perminant stands (see if any repairs are needed).  Then we will head up for a couple grouse hunting trips and mark spots for portables, and even hang a few portable.  Finally, the season comes and passes much to quickly.  Then we start preparing for next season.  I really enjoy the challenge of whitetail hunting!

I do feel some excitement from the moment being upon us but as a bow hunter I have fromi Mid Sept till New Years. Much of that time is without any hunting pressure.  I've gone weekends without seeing other hunters.  Thing of fire arms opener; it sounds like the Guns of Navarone all around me.  Also, practicing for bow season is cheaper than practicing for fire arms because I get my arrows back and use them until I lose them or (one day) William Tell one of em.  I can practice tons (year round) and its very satisfying to see my accuacy improve.  I get a real sence of accomplishment and pride every time I see those Xs knocked out of my targets.

If you haven't tried archery yet, you're missing out.  Go to a range and try out a bow or two and I'll bet you a beer you'll enjoy it.

I'd have to say that both fishing and hunting are about equal, I'll give a slight edge to Pheasant hunting though, it's just an awesome feeling to train a dog and watch them in the field.

In no special order, except a slight edge to Pheasant Hunting.

Deer hunting for sure since that is all I have done for the past 16 years, but I am very excited also to get back into fishing this summer. My son and I were out 3 times already last week fishing for panfish.

5years old - ~ 34" Pike - Ham Lake - Nightcrawler & Hook with one of those HUGE red and white bobbers.

   here in minnesota, a pike 391/2 " 17lbs 3 oz. on 10 lb line fishing for crappies on the gull river.

I caught a 44 inch #23 northern in 1998 on the Rat River in northern Manitoba.

I caught a 38" 19 lbs Northern trolling with a dare devil labor day 2005 (Tamarack river -mouth of URL).

12 pound Northern on Clear Lake in Waseca when I was about 14. Trolling with a Red Eye. I caught another Northern that was much bigger than that one up on Leech the same summer on the same Red Eye, but I set my pole down in the boat to grab the net as my Dad was reelin one in at the same time and the dang pole jumped right out of the boat and into the lake. Boy was i heartbroken over losing that fish...my Dad was pretty upset about losin his rod and reel that was one of a couple handed down to him from his Dad.

I CAUGHT A 38 POUND KINGSALMON  ON LAKE MICHIGAN   OUT OF  MUSKEGON  HRBOR  IN 1983.  IT WAS CAUGHT ON 12 POUND TEST  AND TOOK ME 30 MINUTES  TO GET IN THE BOAT. JUST SO YOU KNOW  5 OFUS LIMITED THAT DAY AND MINE WAS THE SMALLEST FISH LANDED !!!
