Any area reports on crappies yet?  I am considering heading out tomorrow, but not sure if water temps are high enough yet for a crappie bite.  I don't need specifics, just general info.

Buehler...Anyone?  Wow, the most basic question on a fishing site on the most promising weekend of the year!  Someone had to go out or had to hear anything.  Again, I'm not looking for specific lakes and areas, just lake temps in general and whatever info someone who headed out may know.  Please...

I fished Elmo last year when I worked at Link Rec (stay far away).  Caught a few bass, but it was slow.

If you are both looking for honesty, it will be 2 weeks before any good Crappie bite is going anywhere, the water temp is too cold.

Lake Elmo is a terrible lake for general fishing, give me a call or pm and i'll give you a list of metro lakes to try.

I wasn't there but I heard great reports coming from Minnetonka today. I know at least one boat went home with a limit of nice fish.

I was out from shore in the St. Cloud area on Sat. I went to 5 different spots.......... NOTHING the water was too cold. I predict next week will turn out fish in the shallow water for the pre-spawn and about 2 weeks untill full spawn.

I search with mini mites under a bobber. After I find some, and the aggressive ones stop, i use a plain #6 longshank hook and minnow under the bobber.

I went out with 2 nephews for the first trip of the year yesterday on Minnetonka.  What an awesome day weather wise and good (not great) fishing!  No wind, sun all day, and warmth for a change!  We found a nice remote channel and we had it to ourselves other than one other boat all afternoon.  We boated 50+ crappie (only kept 7 as most were small).  The guy next to us was on a magical spot and caught as many as the 3 of us combined.  Largest crappie was 12", the rest were in the 9"-10" range.  Eaters anyway.  I did end up with a 5lb bass (FUN AS HECK ON 4 lb TEST).  Don't leave the net to a 14 Y.O. nephew.  LOL.  Almost lost it twice in tangles on his line left in the water (yes twice) and an ill attempted netting.  Good times!

Sounds like a great day UncleDave!  It's fun to later laugh at little things like that with kids, it just makes more memories for the future. ;D

Been catchin' them in brush/woodpiles along a wall.  Water depth is 12 feet, hook is 1 to 1.5 feet deep.  Magical bait is waxies.  Mostly sunnies but a few crappies.  Nothing worth keeping but a very quick bite for the kids to enjoy and an uncle to not get any fishing in while he removes fish from hooks and rebaits them.
