Fishing Report
Lake of the Woods/Rainy River
April 30, 2007

Lake sturgeon season is in full swing here and the Rainy River has
given up some awesome fish. No North American freshwater fish grows
larger or lives longer than this prehistoric fish. Lake sturgeon have
been known to live more then 100 years and can grow larger than 200
pounds. One fish is allowed per license year, and must measure 45 to
50 inches long, or over 75 inches. A sturgeon tag is required, and is
available wherever fishing licenses are sold. Sportsman?s Lodge will
host the 1st Annual North Star Sturgeon Classic May 4 & 5.

Walleye opener is May 12th, and the Minnesota DNR would like to
remind people that using common sense while boating will help ensure
a safe fishing experience. Lets all work together to keep the lake
safe and have a great opener to the 2007 season.
