Chapter 1: 6am to 11am Saturday May12th

Leech Angler, Wild Willie and myself are on leech Lake for the 2007 Walleye opener, we were on the water at 6am this morning and headed to Stoney Point, we were one of the first to get to this location, shortly after a few boats started to roll in, at 7am, the Governers boat came rolling by, followed by 50 other boats of camera crews, media and other friends. We were lucky enough to fish right next to the Governer and witnessed his first fish at around 8am.

Fishing was very slow for everyone for the first couple of hours, a few perch and very few Walleyes were caught from the entire group.

Kent Hrbek was also present and fished on the other side of us, just a few feet away, lots of security and state flags on a few of the bigger boats too. It was very exciting to be in the middle of all of this, we grabbed a lot of pictures and even a short video of the Governers first fish of 2007.

Fishing for our boat picked up around 9am, we decided to make a move over to ottertail Point, we found Mark Christianson, and fished with his group, shortly after our lines were in the water, Wild Willie hooked a very fat 22" Walleye on a plain hook and a crawler.

Chapter 2: May 12th afternoon.

Well, were still here and just came off the lake for dinner. Things were pretty quiet this afternoon and early evening, we only boated one 14" Walleye and a few nice Perch. Not as much traffic on the lake after 3pm either.

The weather is at a comfortable temp, (sweatshirt weather) probably around 60 degrees with a 10 mile wind.

We have a few more pictures to upload later, Leech Angler and I will be fishing early am tomorrow for around half the day or so, hopefully, we'll have a better report.

Water temp is still too cold at 55 degrees, a few days of warm weather should help the Leech lake bite, we are reading plenty of fish, but most have lockjaw.....

We'll have a small video on the site later tonight, a small clip of the Governer catching a 4 pound Pike.

Heading home now, not looking forward to the 3.5 hour drive and the traffic.

Chapter 3: Sunday Am

Leech Angler and I hit the water on Sunday morning, fishing was a lot better and the weather was also warmer, the wind was high at around 25 mph, we stayed off the big lake and fished near the resort, even the bays had close to 2 foot rollers.

Plenty of fish were caught on Sunday, with almost all of them ranging from 14" to 18", the key was switching from Lindy Rigs to a plain jig and minnow in 7-10 fow, just about all of the boats in our fishing area were catching fish, we seen quite a few kids on the lake and having some decent luck.

The water temp on Sunday afternoon was in the lower 60's, next weekend should be hot on Leech lake
