gets a person to thinkin...  my dad was wounded twice
in ww2 . shot once in the behind by a american soldier,
the next was a german grenade. he only got one purple heart.
the war pretty much messed up his life, hardly ever talked about
it. we didnt get along at all, he was at work one day and i guess
a peice of that grenade let loose and went into his heart and put
him into a coma. a week later he died...  a hero?  maybe..
a good father? no!  but now after all these years i am starting
to understand why he was that way. he killed a lot of people
and had to live with that...  sorry to vent like this....

There is no doubt that it has got to be hard to live with those feelings when our soldiers return home to try to live "a normal life" after being thrown into a war situation in which they are literally fighting for their lives. I don't think there were any programs in place to help our soldiers returning home from either World War or even Vietnam for that matter that helped them deal with those psychological effects of being in those situations. I pray that we as a society have learned more about these issues affecting our soldiers since those days and that we are better able to help them transition not only back into society, but back into the lives of their families as well once they return home.

Both of my Grandfathers were in World War II and my birth father has been overseas on both Active Duty and as support on several occasions.
