Daily I read reports from Mille Lacs on many other boards and I always wonder how these people remember all the fish they caught. They go on and on. I caught 1-16" 2-18" etc...You get the point.

Are they writing this stuff down or making it up???

What do you think??

I know what you mean here. I've had plenty of great fishing days on various lakes, not one time can i remember the exact lengths of every Walleye I caught, let alone after the first few, i almost always stop measuring and throw them back asap. Once I get my "feel" for the lengths, there is no need to measure the out of slot fish anymore.

I'm guessing half of the reports we read are legit and the other half are bs. There are also the type of people that have to one up everyone all the time, I think we all have someone we know like this. Say a person posts a decent fishing report, someone always comes in and claims they caught more, faster and bigger.

The one that I love is.... Say your fishing all weekend and the fishing is on the slow side, your watching hundreds of other boats and even talking to a lot of them. Everyone in sight is having the same poor luck as you are, but when you get home and check the internet, fishing was awesome, everyone got their limits and so on......

In my opinion, there is nothing bad about claiming you had poor luck on the lake that day, noone thinks the person is a bad fisherman because mother nature decides to play a role in how the fish are biting.

I'll tell ya what, I'll give it a try today ;)  I'm waiting for pop's to get here and then were headed that way (Mille Lacs)  I have my bird counters that I use to count flushes with and I hope I need them. With the reports I've been reading I can only hope.  I can remember the trip I had there last year, but I don't remember the numbers. All I do remember is that 3 of us used up a pound of leeches in 6 hours. Took home 7-8 eaters and thew back many slot fish and one that was tagged as well.  I hope the fishing is too good to keep track ::popcorn::

Good Luck!! I'm sure you guys will have the same luck as last year if not better. The fishing has been really good as you probably already know.

Like Pat said some are real some are fake.  I have a pretty good feel on the fish when it's caught, but some do fake me out.  My buddies that he caught had a HUGE head and we thought it was close to 28", when we measured it was ~25.75".  If someone that doesn't fish much is in the boat I am in get's a slot fish we measure it, but if I catch one I just say (DAM I LOVE THIS LAKE Mille Lacs) and toss her back in.

Two of us fished the North side on Saturday.  The Casino Access was full at 6:00 a.m. (must have been some kind of tournament going on) so we put in at the Garrison North Landing.  The rollers were coming in pretty good and I must have not had my motor tilted up enough when we were tied to the dock as she was bottoming out pretty good and I ended up snapping off my skeg where it was welded from a previous mishap.  I didn't know anything was wrong except the boat (tiller) steered harder than normal.  We didn't go very far out and fished the rocks (drifting) on the West Myr Mar flat.  Long leaders, heavy weights, colored hooks with an attractor bead were the ticket.  we ended up catching our limit of 8 under the slot before noon.  We released two fish over the slot and missed several fish as well.  Except for the skeg it was a great day.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly as much fun.? Robert Traver "Anatomy of a Fisherman"

  What a lake!

I don't have most of the numbers ::banghead:: I tried, realy I did. The numbers I do have are  17 fish in the boat... 6 in the cooler (14" to 19.25")  2 we tossed back that were under 12" ::fishing::  Now the other 9 fish were the great ones and where I lost the numbers. We do know this... they were over 20" and our big fish we mannaged to remember the length was 25.75" and I had to be reminded about 15 times on the way home that he did not even need to squeez the tail. You guessed it, it was my pop's that got her. We never kept a log, but maybe next time, I think it just takes too much out of the day to stop and write things down unless your watching a bobber. We drifted in the A.M. then had to drop the trolling motor down by mid morning. I think I would have liked the wind more than I liked it calm. The bugs were driving me nuts!!! ::hittingself::  Some type of bug hatch going on and it was... *&$#@ me off.  But was still better than mowing the lawn. I wish I lived even closer than I do now and I'm just 69.8 miles if you know the back roads to the west side.

Heres my dads fish that was probably 26" or more if he had pinched the tail. This fish was not very fat and I asume it was from it's messed up jaw, clearly this fish had been hooked before... or ???

I'm not sure what picture was my big fish at 25.25" but I tossed back the most slot fish and had fun doing it.
