Well the fishing on Mille Lacs has still been good. I spent a few days up there this week and had a great time! Earlier in the week I tried some night fishing without much luck. I think it was my worst time out this year with only 2 small walleyes caught and a couple misses. I was pretty lazy out there by myself in the dark so I think I could of done better. Heard good reports from others doing the same. The next day we got into some giant Lg. Mouth Bass. The biggest going 20in and over 4lbs. I was also able to locate some giant crappies!! The problem was that I could not get them to go. I had limited resources and what I had they wanted nothing to do. It was site fishing without catching anything. They would sniff at it but would not go. I hooked one for a split second and he was off. I have not seen crappies this size up there in a couple years....oh well. May head up this week to see if they are still around. Fishing last night was the best. We fished deep in the 20's and had our best luck on slip bobbers and leeches. We also saw a lot of fish caught around us. Good times!

I got a feeling that the mayfly hatch may shut the eyes down for the next couple of days.  They were absolutely terrible out there!

I think you may be right...It got worse as the night went on. Friends who were up all week said the fishing declined everyday with Saturday being the worse. It was either storms that rolled through the night before or the bugs. I'm guessing the flies were the culprit.....thick.

Those are great pics Mayfly. Thanks for sharing your trip out with us.  ;D

What else did you try besides leeches, or was that all you had with on this trip?    ::fishing::

Just a side note:

The guy that is pictured with me and by himself has only caught like 3 walleyes in his life before this outting. He caught a 22/23 inch fish last year and a couple on opener. He had the hot hand last night catching probably 80% of the fish we boated. Pretty exciting night for him!

He is always wanting to go. Last year when I took him after we got back he called me the next day from Gander Mountain asking what he needed to buy..... ;D

I took him on opener this year and 2 weeks later he was looking at a Lund Pro-V that a co-worker was selling ;D

After this trip I have not talked to him yet......... ;D

He is probably on the phone trying to buy a fishing resort up on Mille Lacs or Leech Lakes I'm guessing.... :ROTFLMAO:

That's awesome that he is excited about fishing, and you are a great friend to take him out and help him to have such a great fishing experience!  ;)

We actually had a wallaye on the surface feeding on the mayflies.  When we shined the light on him, he swam back under.  I've never seen anything like that................

Now that I think about it I saw this multiple times. I would see a fish come up and I thought maybe it was a floater. I have caught fish and 20 minutes later they were floating and I thought that was maybe what I was seeing but they would quickly disappear down below. I saw this 3 times in 3 different spots. After seeing the one close feeding on the flies that has to be what the others were doing. Hmmm, Top water baits for mayflies in 30 feet of water???
