WOW Adam, those are quite the set ups you got there.  I hunted with an old Jennings Black Lightning for about 8 years.  I think its from the 1980s.  This last march I won a Browning F5 Tornado at the MDHA banquet in Forest Lake.  Put a 3 pin Hammerhead sight it.  DMI Expert I rest.  Not sure of the name brand of the stabelizer.  Got Carbon Express 300s with 100 grain tips.  Haven't even gotten broadheads for it yet but will by mid August.  Also got a new release which is much quieter than my back up.

Shooting a 2 year old Custom made rivers edge TD recurve.  Have 2 sets of limbs.  49@30 and 53@30.  Shooting some beamon classic 340 carbons with some 125 grain field tips and use thunderhead broadheads for hunting.  Riser is made of Curly maple with a chechen flair and the limbs are made with carpathien elm core with red elm vaneers.

Wow! Opener is only about 2 months away. I have taken the last 3 years off to focus on pheasant hunting again which has been great. I do miss bow hunting very much though. This year I am now living in a situation were I can literally walk out my door and walk about 200 feet and shoot a deer. I think for the meat I will have to do this! I guess it is time to start shooting and get my bow back to operational condition!

Any recommendations for a cheap target?? I want to set something up in my yard.

I bought a $25 deal from Fleet Farm which works ok but my arrows pass through some times.  Its got soft spots already.  I made one out of buffalo board or Built Rite.  Its wall sheething and you can get it at places like Fleet Farm, Home Depot.  Anyway, I got a 4X8 sheet and cut it into 2'X2' squares then layered em up with silicone between then strapped it together with duct tape.  Not pretty but durable.  We left it up at my buddies cabin and it sits outside.  Well other than soft spots from his 30.06, its not lettin any arrows pass through.  ORRR if you can get a big bail of hay, that would be good too.

Good luck.

Howdy,
I just got a 2007 Mathews Drenalin, with an HHA adjustable one pin site, whisker bisquit rest, doinker stabilizer, and I shoot Carbon Express 100's tipped with Muzzy Phantom.  I used to shoot Steel Force tho.  My groupings when I focus are inside 3 inches at 20 yards, inside 4 inches at 30 yrds, inside a pie plate at 40 yards, and while I am sited to 50 yards, I would never shoot that far since I only pull 47 pounds with a 27 inch draw.  I'm a lefty too.

My backup bow used to be my Mathews Outback, but I did a permanent loan to my daughter in law who wants to take up archery.  I also have a 2006 Switchback XT but I've got it for sale on Craig's list.

I get a nice fat doe every year for the freezer, usually opener or the week after.  Last year I pinched a 340 pound bear doing my own bait on my place.  I always arrow a few raccoons over the summer too.  I have a little 3D course set up at the cabin, with a buck, a bear, a turkey, a few Block targets, and a couple Rhinehart targets.   I like to go to Lake Elmo Park Preserve archery range too because it's quiet and has 20, 30, 40, 50 yard targets, and also a sit down shoot thru window to simulate turkey hunting from a ground blind.

I am WAY stoked for hunting this year.. but then I am every year!  It's a total addiction.  Bear opener is Sep 1st, with baiting to start mid August.  Time to get over to Lucky 7 bear bait in Cambridge at get me some gummy bear, grease and other stuff.  I hope to get my stand set up for bear done this weekend or next.  Happy hunting everyone and keep on practicing !!!

I'm pretty excited today. Just got permission to hunt on some premium metro land ;D I'm off to Archery Specialists in the morning to get ready.

Who else will be sitting in a tree this fall with a bow???

Congrats.  Permission like that is kinda rare.  I'll be in stand for sure.  I'm getting very tight groups with this new bow so Im itchin to get out there and sling some sticks.

I to laid my rifle aside and took up the bow because the thrill of hunting with a rifle was wearing off. After about 5 yrs. of no rifle I took up the hand gun for rifle season. Now I hunt them both. For abow I am shooting a Hoty with carbon arrows and for hand gun I shoot a TC 7x30.
