I am not a paid employee but I have installed a couple of them before. The dish has to be pointed at an angle that points over Texas. I am sure you can figure that part out easily enough. Adjust the vertical to the correct angle, that is just trial and error. When your outside by the dish have someone in the house watching the tube telling you that you don't have it quite yet. There is a signal strength that can be seen on the set-up screen.
It's really pretty easy...The only thing to be scared of is falling off the roof. ;D

I have also found that Dish Network is better than Dish 500.

I may be wrong here, but I think Dish Network and Dish 500 are the same thing. The Dish 500 is the type of dish you have that you are trying to point at the satellite. I think the other system you are referring to is Direct TV. They are another satellite tv system. When we are on the lake trying to find signal my buddy always finds his quicker. He has Direct TV. I have the Dish 500 system. I think the Dish 500 uses 2 satellites and the Direct TV uses 1. That might be why they are easier to lock on to. They both have good reception and they have some good deals for new subscribers. I know Dish Network sucks for customer relations. But I've heard the other company is bad also. They sold me a receiver a long time ago for HD channels. Now when they have a bunch of HD channels they said mine was obsolete. That cost me $500.00. I wasn't very happy at all. Hope this helps you out.

You are correct. I was trying to think of Direct TV's name at the time but couldn't remember it. ::) It is a better format when surfing channels. As far as picture quality and uninterrupted service they are about the same.

When checking with both, I am becoming less impressed with "value"  Their "specials" seem great, but after looking at all the add-ons ($5 per box, $5 for locals, 10 month "special") hell, they might be a little higher priced than cable....

thoughts?

your correct they are  basically the same price after promos ,  do you think they can get  the programming  cheaper than the other company's?  the onlything that does come out cheaper is hdtv with dvr and  direct  owns at that  game.

btw   dish "500" uses  sats  101& 119     dirct tv  std uses 101  tripple sat uses 101 110 119  and the hdtv version ( kaku) uses 101 103 110 99 119   there is also   95 for international programming  if any of you want tv asia

I only have experience with dish network.  But dish supposedly the best customer support of any of the cable/satellite providers.  As for the satellites that they have, they use 3 or 4 satellites.  The main two are the 110 and 119 satellites.  They have an Angel network that runs off of 62.4 and I think there is another one for foreign channels.  Another note on the customer support for dish is that they will do pretty much anything for you if threaten to cancel your service.  I?ve seen them give someone like $300 worth of equipment and programming for free.  Just make sure you deal with Dish network directly and not one of the companies that they sub to for installations.
