BEAR OPENER SEPT. 1
A harvest of about 3,500 animals is expected (total state population: 20,000-30,000), with a success rate again this year of about 25 percent among hunters holding permits. Hazelnut and acorn crops have been good across the north, and both compete with hunters' baits.
