I'll be staying close to home on the opener and hunting at my "honey hole" all weekend. The following weekend I'm heading down to Worthington with Leech Angler.

Well this is the week. Looks like the temps will not be too warm next weekend with highs in the 50's to low 60's. Shouldn't be too bad. I am guessing with as wet as this fall has been we will see lots and lots of corn still up which is great news for us late season hunters and not so great for the opener. I'm going to try and head out around noon on Friday but will be gone by 5 for sure. I'll be hunting in Western Minnesota and if they say it looks better than last year we are really in for a treat. I think we were done buy about 4pm on the first day and by 1030am the next day. Tons of birds around ;D

Good Luck all.

  • My FIRST duck!!
My dad, his friend, my boyfriend and I will be heading out my back door~! LOL I think my oldest daughter wants to walk the field opening day too.  And if she does, we are going to let her.  They sure are cackling around here though.  When I was duck hunting yesterday a farmer was cutting corn and one would just go nuts, like a warning, it was GREAT!! LOL

Well.......How did everyone else do?

We started hunting at about 9am and were done by 11:30am.......well we had 5 birds for 3 people and 1 dog and then we unloaded our guns and triend to get Rachel her first bird. That didn't go as planned....we saw a ton more birds but she could not connect so we took a lunch break after a ton of walking and then dived in again. Mid-afternoon the wind blowing and next to two oceans of corn and it took about an hour to get our last bird and were done by about 3pm.  We saw a ton of birds! After we were done hunting we drove and drove and drove and knocked on a ton of doors and made a few phone calls trying to get access to hunt more private land. We finally landed a sweet looking spot and called it a day. Next morning we were there in the rain and wind to get our 6 birds. Again we were seeing birds before we even got in. I think we hunted until 11 again and had 5 birds again happy2.gif I don't think we missed any but had a couple flush way out of range. The best bird was the last bird of the day. We were beat and wet and tired and walking back to the trucks along the road. Luci was off doing her own thing and then all of the sudden she was on point...it was a perfect picture! Wish I would of had a camera. Anyways, we catch up to her and then I give her the command and a rooster is air born! 1 shot and it's down ;D That was great! Anyways we were soaking wet and got into dry clothes and called it a day. Not bad, 3 people, 1 dog and 11 birds both by about 11am each day.  Its the same as last year if not better +/-. All private land, didn't take a single step on public this opener. No reason to. We had permission going in on Saturday so no sense in waking up so darn ealry to fight for a spot. We roled out of bed at 6:30am had some coffee ate breakfast and took our time to get to the field. What a day! 1 spot per day.
