We had good ice in the bays.

The wind has really started to blow out of the north at 25+ MPH.  It's really hard to tell what it's doing to the ice sheet, but I fear the worst.  The middle of the lake had whitecaps on it this afternoon and my guess is that it's starting to pile that ice up in the SE bays :(

Spudded my way out 200 yards or so into Sunset Bay. 4-5 inches everywhere I went and not a crack to be heard. We did have some of the first ice on ML out here in the bay, so I doubt you will find that everywhere.

We have 8-9 inches of snow up here on the east side.

I went out about 1/2 mile on the sled today and found 5 inches of ice.

Junkie,'

Thanks for the kind words.

We are going to start punching a road out into the bay on Thurs.  It will be wheelers and sleds for now.

We are currently getting snow today and so far have received another 4 + inches

Took the sled out over a mile today out to Shaw's Reef. Never found a spot with less than 7 inches of ice. It might be tough to get out there with a wheeler as we have 15-16 inches of snow, but it's all good with a sled. We will have the beginnings of a marked road in place by the weekend.

Jiggle,

We found one small pocket of slush near a healed ridge, but other than that, it was all good.

Jiggle,

There is 15 or so inches of snow on the ice.  Lots of stuff to move to make a road.

keep in mind despy, we are over an hour and a half north and south of each other. paul and I that is.
the fact that we have the same amount of snow is purely coincidental.
i think that we dont see a lot of slush yet is in places that havent been drilled yet.
once we poke holes, up comes the water.
after this weekend, you will get blow by blow reports from me.
i will be out and punching holes where I feel safe enough to get out.
that reminds me to get the chains on the four wheeler.
every lake around here is different. it was a weird freeze over this year.
deer lake has now froze over and there is no snow on it so it will make ice faster than any other lake around here.
me thinks my early ice season will begin there :fishing:

Ya, it is quite the co-ing-kee-dink. But I just couldn't pass up the chance to yank your chain.

I do look forward to the upcoming blow by blow reports.  The family and I used to stay with Russ.  So now that he isn't doing the sleeper rentals, I'm hoping we can get up and experience camp Jigglestick.  (need to go have a little pow-wow with the social coordinator)
I've done a little icefishing on Winni, but never been on Bowstring.  Sounds like the kinda place to put on the "after walleye season" schedule.

Wow, those are some pretty big shoes you want me to fill. Russ ran a great service.
I think I am up to the task  ;)

He did run an excellent service. I am not sure I have everbeen treated so well. Brought my brother and his father in law up and they were impressed as well.
