I went out to Lake Owasso in Roseville on Friday Night,  The ice is 12 inches and there are already a couple of permanents out there.  Crappies are there but there rarely biting.  Saturday Morning I went to Long Lake hoping to get some pike but as I am sure that you know some drunk idiot thought it would be fun to go out and drive around and whip up some doughnuts.  While the idiot went through and his car is still under the ice.  Its easy enough to avoid the clearly marked area where his car went in. A friend and I journeyed out really wide of where he went in, but the ice did not sound safe it was cracking and we quickly turned around (we were on foot).  We drove to Owasso again and had minimal success catching crappies.  There is my Northeast cities update, be safe and Stay off Long Lake.  BTW only ATV's were out on Owasso no Cars.

Yeah, I heard about that, & went there to test my old auger out (hey when they get 20 plus years old, ya try em out every year) and you can see where the Idiot went thru...lots of doughnut tracks off the landing that work there way to the marked off area... :bonk:  Nature tryin to weed out the weeklings/ Natural selection eh?  The ice is at best 5" thick....what a moron!  (The ole Jiffy started right up and ripped three holes like it was goin thru nuttin!)     -thunderpout :happy1:

Are you sure it is even 5 inches?  I have never heard cracking like that in my life.  The thing that really sucks is they still have to pull this Jackass out and they are going to need to cut the ice all the way back to the landing.  I doubt we will be able to get out on Long Lake his year at all with any confidence that we are not going to fall through.

Right on the landing, where it meets the lake, like the first ten feet out, there are these large 1-2" cracks Im sure where the cars weight buckeled the whole ice sheet...im thinkin thats what ya heard!  Well that and the final CRRRACK...SPLOOOSSH!  Yeah, it was an honest 4.5"... about my limit these days when goin out early...used to do the 2-3" ice but as ya get a little older, wiser and fatter ya realize its not worth a few fillets to go in....    -thunderpout :happy1:
