I was finally able to get out and do some fishing on Saturday afternoon, with a couple of friends. We got set up by 10:30 and the bite was on rite away. By 1: 30 we had 40 nice 10 and 12 inch perch. No walleyes, but it was a lot of fun catching the big perch. They would bite for 15 minutes and then be gone for a half hour.

Some of them would just hammer it. Others would just suck on it. I was using, my trusty dusty gold #3 pimple and Dar was using a colored gamy hook, under a bobber. Marie was doing the same thing. We were in 27 to 29 ft of water, off of the Second Reef, out in the silt. It was a beautiful day to be on the ice and the perch were a great bonus. This morning, as I went to work, Dar and Marie and Jordan, went back to same spot. With totally different results, only 6 nice perch. It is always that way, here today, gone tomorrow. They are definitely on the move. They do not seem to stay in one place very long. Jordan jumped around a lot more then the rest of us, and was able to get his limit of very nice perch for the today. If you work over 15 different holes, you can get your limit of perch. He was using wax worms today.

I did punch a road to the first hump, out a mile and a half. There is also a road out to the Second Reef. The soft bottom, around the Second Reef, is where the nice perch are being caught now. It seems that they are all around it in 27 to 29 ft. I will get the rest of my houses out there this week. It was a much slower bite this weekend for walleyes. There were only 6 walleyes caught out of the rentals this weekend.

The roads are in great shape. The front end, next to shore, did crack off and flood. We just went around it and are letting it freeze down this week. I will be letting most vehicles and wheel houses out this weekend. With the cold weather that is coming, we will put on another 4 inches of ice on top of the 12 to 14 inches that is out there now. There are still some slush spots out there, so be careful if you are doing any off road tours. I do not recommend it. Stay on the roads and the areas that are being maintained by the resorts.
