Anyone else go out for the trout opener ? We did pretty good . We hit a lake in the national forest catching 8 rainbows 12-15" and 3 splake .  It snowed all day so when we folded up the warm portables they froze up . We fished about 6 hours and threw back quite a few smaller ones .

Last year was my first year ever trying for them on the ice. My cousin who lives near my cabin took me. I was surprised how easy it was . I mostly used the jigs I use for crappies and walleyes with wax worms or euro larvae.  I read about how the rainbows and splake bite during the winter on the DNR website and it was right on . I was also surprised by the number of people that are out for opener . Fozen minnows work sometimes. I'm going to be up there again this weekend . Have'nt decided if it'll be trout, walleyes or crappies this weekend. Maybe all 3. At least it'll be a little warmer .
