The weather hasn't been cooperating with the fishermen but a few hardy souls are going out.

Walleyes on Shagawa are still biting, but  running extremely small, about 10-12 inches.

Trout have been slightly more responsive with decent reports of stream trout on Tofte, in about 6-10 FOW. These fish on designated trout waters are fun to catch as you can watch them approach your lure and bite/not bite.

Lakers have been sporadic on both Snowbank and Burntside. They're about 40-60 feet on Snowbank, and the best luck on Burntside has been fishing in 35-40 FOW, but jigging at the 20 foot mark. Many trout speed up from the bottom, where they are feeding on smelt, and slam the jig.

It is not uncommon to see 10-15 feet of smelt on the bottom.  Best results seem to be to jig about 15-20 feet up from the large schools as the trout are feeding heavily on them. Ice thickness on Burntside was 17-18 inches as of last Wednesday.

We should have more reports of fishing action once the weather tones down a bit.

Anyone looking for a current report can feel free to call my shop. Best times are from 1-4 in the afternoon weekdays, or 9-2 on weekends.
