My state fair tree had a bumper crop, even broke some limbs from the weight.
The other trees only had a few, and the deer got those.
I have a crabapple tree that I let grow (illegal immigrant) I have no idea what kind it is. It's around 20 feet tall now and the fruit is the size of a silver dollar.  :confused: That has broken limbs as well from the weight. The fruit isn't bitter like most crabapples.
Our 🍐 trees, one did very well, and the other... not so much. They seem to alternate years.

Alternate year bearing is a thing.   Something about the nutrients going to the fruit and not the developing buds.   Thinning the fruit aggressively can help but some stuff will do it anyway.

That it is and some varieties are more prone to it than others. Haralson is one of them. We got some nice smaller ones today at the orchard today. Wish we could've spent more time there but Mrs. Cheviot was in one of those moods. Lucky I wasn't or she might've been walking home while I went to DQ by myself! :rotflmao: Nothing stopping me from driving up there alone one of the weekends while they're still open. Wanted to visit with the owner about apple growing stuff but he was busy making apple treats for customers.

Our raspberries are like that, except we're getting a 2nd crop of 'em now & that's a 1st. :scratch: :confused: Usually just every other year & the last seasons plants that bore fruit need to thinned aggressively. They turn woody anyway & won't hardly even rot so ~ the only way to get rid of 'em is to burn 'em.

If they have berries in July and now, they are everbearers. The top half of the cane has berries now. The bottom half has berries next July. I have everbearing reds and yellows. I also have June bearing purple raspberries.

So next spring you prune off the top half that have berries on now. They won't leaf out that part next spring. Then after the bottom half has berries next July, you prune the bottom half at ground level.

Never have gotten berries twice in a season before & they're 6-7 years old. Our berries are red & thanks, I'll pass that along. We had so many berries this season that we gave the neighbor some!  :happy1: :cool:

Same here.....more than we can eat. Must be the hot summer. I like the yellow and purple ones better than the reds. They are sweeter.

Local grocery store dropped the price of honey crisp apples,season must be winding down,$1.99/lb sure are sweet and juicy..

Watermelon has been good all summer,now fading away dang-it,this weeks seedless melon was more like a cucumber,no sweetness and tough.but to be expected in october.

Reminds me, we still have a Mooregold squash we purchased at the orchard the other day. Liked our first buttercup so will nuke it tonite. We've grown Mooregolds many times over the years but only had time to purchase squash seed locally this spring. Was a pleasant surprise to find them at the orchard just up the road.

local apple orchard has been very busy to date,they kicked our crew to the curb for culling deer this year but sent us home with home maid apple turnovers....what a treat as I don't bake,little old  farm gals has it dialed in.
