Well I got the barking collar. I have had a few training collars for dogs but never a bark collar. Can't believe it took so long. It's the best $35 I ever spent. Cooper used to bark 5 or 6 times whenever he barked. Loud too. Not anymore. I don't put it on him overnight. He barks about 5:30 every morning and that is a good thing. We put him outside and then feed him. Last night I put the collar on him and then we just waited for him to bark and he wouldn't. Usually he barks at Bob when she teases him so we waited and waited. Finally he lets loose and barked once. The collar beeps and then vibrates. He stopped barking and looked around at the beep. It was hilarious. Later he barked once and shook his head when it vibrated. Again hilarious. So when it is set on green it will beep 3 times and then vibrate for 3 seconds. It is enough to draw his attention so he quits. If you set it on red it does the beep, 3 seconds of vibrate and then a light shock after the third bark. After 30 seconds it starts the sequence over. Thank you very much. LOL
-
After neighbors complained of barking a friend bought a bark collar. Worked fine until the dog learned that he could deplete the batteries if he growled just enough to keep it beeping and vibrating until it wouldn't shock him. :rotflmao:
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1: They say growling or whining won't trigger this one. ???
-
Hey, LPS. Have you got details on the collar? I’ve got one that was pretty expensive. I could use another one, and yours sounds like it would work fine. Thanks.
-
Brand: Authen Price: $34.96 Bark Collar with Beep Vibration and Shock for Small, Medium, Large Dogs. Rechargeable with USB cable.
-
Update: I just changed from the green, beep and vibrate only to red. That is the beep then vibrate and with another bark right away zapper. He is not bothered by the vibrate as much anymore so we need a little more attention getter mode. Now I hope Bob comes in and teases him so he barks at her. :sleazy:
He weighed in at 37 lbs on Sunday. LOL

How do you keep Cooper from not going further than the length of that cable?

LPS what kind of pup do you have? 50+ years never had barking issues raising /training goldens, your pup mixed breed? high strung? if so consider ordering some hemp oil to calm your pup,it works great,a few drops in his food is all it takes "innovet" products. Also something to be said with old school OB training ,still use a choke collar to reprimand but frowned on today,I'm told a "pinch collar" is the new norm for barking, digging etc the trick is catching them in the act,I suppose a field training collar would work as well ,these new training collars have sound, vibration and electric stimulation great range up to a mile on a good one.For hyper pointer pups I see they even offer a gps tracker with display to find your pup in heavy crp, good tool for pointers.
-
Smurfette should get some of that for glenn! :happy1:

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: what makes you think she doesnt already?????????? :happy1:

Must need to put more in! :rotflmao:
-
He's lab and golden. Not any more high strung than any other pup I have had. I am older and don't tolerate the barking as much as I used to. Pretty hard to yank on a collar when they are in the other room. I didn't want to put my Tri Tronics collar on him yet so got the bark collar.
-
i've been trying to pay a little more attention to when shadow barks.......seems he has a tendency to bark when he's wound up and wants to play. otherwise he doesnt bark to much..........he's a dog..its what dogs do!!!!!!
kinda like the credit card commercial with Kevin Hart.........he yells........cause t hat's what he does!!!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

How old is he?lab/golden mix= smart pup, nippet now when he's young,as they learn quick but get selective memory, hell these pups train us better than we train them

i just put a choke collar on shadow today. i do what i do. always used them. i'm going to do some obedience training once this cold snap ends so i can do it outside away from the sheltie. no distractions. i took my old black lab to obedience classes back in the day.....well worth the money. will use some of that, i'm not looking for gold medals just a well behaved dog.
LPS, you tried brushing cooper yet??? just did it for the third time..........what a 3 ring circus that is. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: seems the best one right now is a shedding blade. i also have what they call a firminator, that will work when he is older. also go the standard wire/bristle type brush.
-
Smurfette should get some of that for glenn! :happy1:
In my humble opinion the collar might be more appropriate for Glenn.

Our cat comes in the room and is pretty confident about this puppy thing now so she struts around in front of him. She used to run, now she sometimes just stands her ground and hisses swats at him. It is hilarious. Cooper would sometimes just stand next to Bob and bark and bark. We tried to ignore it but he is trying to irritate Bob by doing it so we were collateral damage. LOL The wife brushed him with one of those wire brushes that you can click it and the fur falls off of it. Works great and Buddy loves it. Cooper doesn't know what to think of it yet. He wants to bite it of course. Biting and jumping up are also things we are getting serious about now. SO barking, biting, jumping. LOL He is real smart Snow. Learns quick too but already knows he can push it further with the wife. LOL He has some little marks on him from Buddy nailing him. Cooper jumps on him and bites him and is already thinking he is King of the Jungle here. Every now and then Buddy just can't take it and snaps at him. He deserves it every time. He just keeps pushing his luck with that too. LOL He is a great pup and we love him. It will be so nice when summer gets here and he can get in the boats and follow our wheelers etc. It is gonna be a great time and he has no idea how fun it can be around here yet. We are so glad we got him even though he pushes his limit with that too. I keep telling the wife that I could probably sell him and make some money..... She gives me the look. We are keeping him. LOL
-
We walk him on a leash quite a bit and that is going real good. After that time he surprised me a peed in the house he hasn't again. He sits by the sliding glass door and now will paw it if we don't see that he needs to go out. I just open the door and let him go. Hoping he stays near Buddy as he grows up.
-
In my experience having an established dog really helps teach a new puppy the ropes. It sure helped with Frieda anyway. She has always obeyed my number one rule which is to stay home. Frieda is now 15 years and 4 months old. She is too old and frail for me to get a pup now. Someday I'll have to start again without the aid of a tutor.

I put shadow on a leash once going to the vet, and I had to drag him do to speak, Yea I gotta work with him. He hasn't had any accidents in the house in a long time. And he had never wondered if and I very seldom let both dogs out at the same time.
I agree 100% Roony having an older dog teach the younger one.

he never wonderd what??? He never wonderd?????that yur a smuf? he neve wonderd???? how your trying to take car of him
He never wonderd what glenn? what did he wonder about???

Just a couple of thoughts—having an established dog in the house before bringing a pup into the picture absolutely makes a difference. The first day of two might not be smooth, but in my experience, they work things out quickly, become pals, and keep each other entertained. The pups tend to follow the lead of the older dog and seem to pick up quickly on the rules.
Dogs barking at normal interruptions in their life doesn’t bother me. It should be expected. But a dog barking incessantly can be annoying. Not the dog’s fault when that happens it’s the owner’s. I use bark collars on occasion when my dogs are becoming bark happy. That happens when they are going back and forth with my neighbor’s dogs, who are pretty aggressive. That’s about 75 yards from my house, which makes it a little more troublesome to deal with. Usually they will respond to a firm command of Come, but there have been days when things up the driveway have been a little too exciting for them to pay attention. On those days, the bark collar can Be a handy tool.
Just my two cents on training collars—I’ve used both regular chain and pinch collars. I’ve found that virtually all dogs respond better to the pinch collar. I’ve had a few dogs that were particularly stubborn, and would not respond to the chain until they were probably suffering from a sore neck that would last a few days. A quick snap with the pinch collar would get their attention right now, and there was no danger of them feeling anything negative about the correction.
Just my thoughts for what they are worth.
-
biggy for my pups is coming when called on command not yelling multipal times just once, all part of "sit" "come" "stay" on a 6' lead for starters but a 30' check cord is a great tool for coming on command hooked up to a choke collar, once these rascals get beyond 6' they forget about the extra length and start to sniff a wander off, call'em one time and if they ignor the command you are in control, they'll learn quick with the choke collar method.
praise is key when commands are successful, some folks give treats but that leads to begging, but thats my PO. do what fits your program, plenty of video's out they're for training, just pick and choose what fits for you, hell my first OB class 50 + years ago was the best money I spent training my pup, from socializing your pup to training excersises and how to correct when pup screws up,most teach about feeding do's and don'ts,best part was how to correct a mis behaving pup as they grow because like children they'll test the limits, never raise a hand to your pup because doing so will cause harm, our pups don't know english so repetition is key in a calm voice,if ya get pissed ,walk away until you cool down, but like glenn said "best money he ever spent" training his dog, truth.
best to keep training commands in short 2-3 minute sessions as young pups will get bored and lose consentration but repetition on each new command is key.
-
I've always used choke collars and had great success.

Here is Cooper after a big day!
-
Awesome. He's a big boy too!! Looks as spoiled as mine. :rotflmao:
-
oh my them pups are spoiled!!! awesome!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
Looking closer, did cooper lose some of the darker color??
We gotta make that meet up this summer happen. :happy1:
I see you have to out out the foot rest on the chair to so he don't fall off. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
His hair is darker on the middle of his back. He has really gotten taller and longer recently. Not chubby at all which one would expect weighing over 40 lbs. He has big legs and paws. They sure look like brothers don't they Glenn?
-
Got that right. :happy1:
-
Showed wife the picture. She pointed out how cooper has his paw on your arm. Shadow does the same thing with his paw. :rotflmao: always gotta have his paw on my arm or using his paws to paw at yea. :rotflmao:
-
Ya like he is keeping us under control. He now tries to keep Buddy away from the wife now. When Buddy is in her lap (she has a real big recliner) Cooper goes over and bugs him trying to get him down. Buddy is mellowing and taking it well. He didn't do that at first. Cooper thinks he controls the show. LOL He kind of does but don't tell him that.
-
Here is Cooper after a big day!
 Looks like Cooper & Shadow are the ones doing the training to me. ;) ;D ;D

When the dogs went out this morning it was dark yet and we turn the yard light on. The coyotes started yapping again. Real close to us. During the night our dogs barked too. We have a swamp with tall grasses that I wonder if they are bedding down in. As Cooper gets older he is looking more Golden than lab. I see the hair on his tail is getting longer now too. That puppy blockhead look is gone now.
-
They are spoiled pups for sure. :happy1: boy Cooper has sure gotten big since we seen him when we got the fridge from ya. Crazy how fast they grow.
-
same with shadow. i'm not seeing the golden in him yet. based on the parents pictures......i keep looking for the longer curly hair and dont see it yet.
he's still a blockhead yet :rotflmao: :rotflmao: sometimes. :bonk: but yea he seems to be growing out of it. also growing out of his huge paws!!!!!!
-
One thing I've been bad at over the years with dogs is brushing teeth. Our lab now has horrible breath, and could use more than a brushing but it's something tgat always gets forgotten . You guys?
-
I've never brushed a dog's teeth. I give them doggy biscuits that's supposed to do the same thing????
-
Carrots are good for dogs teeth. Those little ones work great. Also helps with bad breath. Ice cubes work too. Good time to make them sit.
-
LPS now that's a "lap dog" lol big ole lumox....good looken pup,you two seem bonded already.
-
Ya we are pretty good buds. He just learned last week or so how tasty horse meadow muffins are. Whenever we don't see him for a few minutes we realize he is in the pasture getting a treat. Every dog we have had goes through it. He brings one up to the house and munches on it. LOL The wife even brushes his teeth now and then. Just weighed him. 44 lbs. Was born Oct 26 I believe.
-
"horse meadow muffin" what the heck is it?kinda like a dog biscuit?
-
Ya except they are green and fairly round. The fresh ones are warm. I am glad he seems to prefer frozen ones at this point. He must feel like he is in heaven since the pasture is full of them. :rotflmao:

glenn, fyi buddy's pup got extremly ill last summer almost died, pup became extremly lethargic, turned out his pup was wolfen down old sunflower seeds under the feeder, after getting wet all summer from rain/dew they grew a toxic mold,I never knew or payed attention to my feeders as my pup is always sniffin around the feeders but I mow em up once a week as the dang birds are messy, pigs ears is another no no in the summer as they'll grow salmonella when its hot n humid....Today our pup's are so human like, they even catch colds, wonder how wolves and coyotes make due?
-
Never ever gave my dogs those pig ears. The seeds he's eating are fresh laying on the snow. Trying to keep him from doing it, but he listens like kids. :rotflmao:
-
used to give ourd those smoked pig ears, they loved them...
-

Yeah no worries with the seeds in the winter just a fyi come summer, agreed mike, pups love those pig ears but time of year is everything, some pup's have a bullet proof stomach's some need a little extra attention what they eat.another buddy had a sick pup, wouldn't eat, just moped around, vet couldn't figure out what the heck until they did a x-ray then surgery as the pup had a huge mass in his stomach, turned out being box elder bugs mass about the size of a softball he said, caught my boy eating darn box elder bugs last summer but he passed em herd stories of other dog's getting sick from box elders, dang pups if it stinks they'll eat it or roll in it.
-
I bought one of those smoked pig ears once. I got tired of my dog smelling like them. I only get the rawhide bone things now. Unflavored.
-
We do the rawhides, when the weather is nice they can lay outside and chew away. Although we do the ones with no knots, been twice I've caught em choking on em.
-
My chocolate lab didn't do well with the rawhides. Had to really watch what we have her beyond the normal food we gave her.
-
Cooper has gone through about 4 of the 6" ones so far. I buy them 3 at a time. When it is down to one of the knots on the end I throw them away. Best doggy chew treat ever for me.
-
My dogs get Bully sticks. Usually from Best Bully Sticks online. Gotta be the odor free ones though.
-

I quit giving my dogs pork chop bones (the curved ones) because I've had to dig two of them out because they were choking on them. Springers, smaller mouths.
-
i might try those rawhides???????/
-
I keep one on the table next to our chairs so when he is in our lap it is right there so he doesn't chew on us. I never give my dogs bones neither. Some scraps. Cooper hasn't really learned what the scraps thing is yet. I sneak them to Buddy. Not going to last long though. He is suspicious. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

What? Mike runs around naked in Alex??? That used to be such a nice town. LOL Well just back from town with the dogs. First time at the bank with both of them. The ladies there have been waiting to meet Cooper. Went smooth. They each got a dog treat. SO yesterday I was on my laptop in the front room and printed out a lasagna recipe. A minute or two later the wife tells me the printer is still printing. ??? Cooper stepped on my laptop whilst I was doing the printing thing. I now have 15 extra pages of lasagna type of things printed. Glad the wife caught that when she did.
-
well if ya printed an extra lasagna one mail it to me, I don't have a printer.. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:

:pouty:Yea got paper, a pen. :pouty:   :rotflmao:

Here are a couple of pics from a week ago. I'm just trying to keep up with Glenn.
-
looks like the cat marked the top of his snout!!!
-
He starts a lot of trouble with Bob and Buddy. Now and then they wack him. LOL He always goes back for more too.
-
looks like the cat marked the top of his snout!!!
He does have a long cowlick on his nose too. That may be what you see Mike. His hair is getting longer. The Golden is coming out in him more each week.
-
that's most likely it... good lookin pup too!! both you guys got good lookin pups!!
-
That pic of him standing up is real deceiving too. It makes him look stockier that he really is. He is actually tall and slender. I think that shadow on him makes him look thicker.
-
:happy1: :rotflmao: we gotta make a meet up this summer work. :happy1:
-
We sure do. I am so curious to see how they react to each other. I would think they would smell or sense something.
-
Good lookin pupper LPS,agreed I see the golden coming out, glenn's too, looks like cooper gets table scrapes... better get him on the tread mill and cut the snacks....lol hard not to spoil a pup tho, thanx for sharing the pic's fun watching em grow up. Sure has a cute golden face. wonder if his nose will change color as he ages? goldens turn brown in the winter, black come summer, just curious I guess.
-
We have a bird feeder on our deck railing. It is about 15' from the window. We get squirrels in it too. Buddy used to get all excited about them. He has caught a few of them. Now we knock on the window so the squirrels get a head start to the nearest trees. We have seen him catch up to them and then just slow down and let them go to. Well the last few days Cooper is starting to get all excited when he sees one at the feeder. Won't be long till he is in full squirrel mode.
-
Here is Cooper this morning chewing on a shoe we gave him.

I gave him some dog food with olive oil on it to lube him up and help pass the sock.
-
:happy1: good looking pup LPS! :happy1: hopefully he can pass that sock. Maybe his stomach fluids can help break it down some.
-
Soooooo LPS are ya going clean the sock for your wife once it's back in the open air??? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Good luck lps, hopefully cooper passes the sock. Can't say I've ever been down that road, usually just pcs of clothing they were chewing up.
-
Hoping he passes the sock too Barry. Don't want to speculate too much but he's a good sized dog and it doesn't sound like it was a huge sock. Sounds like you've done what you can. Could end up like the cats when they used to eat the milk strainers. Sometimes had to pull them out of their @ss to finish the job for them but they went on through. And glenn tells me he can always use more socks! :happy1:

I weighed him this morning. 53 lbs. LOL He is slim and trim too.

We had a cat that ate the draw string from a sweatshirt hoodie. One day the cat walked by and I saw about 3 inches dangling from the cats a$$. I just grab it and pulled. Dumb animals.
-
I have my eyes peeled. Feeling like I may be helping some with the passing of the sock. Hopefully today.
-
Little rascal sure is growing up fast, like his cowlick like shadow cooper's golden is coming out,fun watching the boyz grow.thanx for sharing.
-
LOL That is a funny cowlick on his nose. Was just talking to the wife and remembered we had a smaller lab named Willy a couple of dogs ago. I had bought a half ham and it had a real thick rind on it. I cut the rind off and threw it outside for him to chew on when he was out there. I thought he would chew on it for a week. This is a big chunk. Darn near enough to make a football. Well an hour later I went out to check the progress and it was already gone. Willy ate it all. I don't know how he swallowed it in one piece but he did.. We were worried. He was uncomfortable for a few days and stink!!!! He farted all day and night for 2 days. Finally he must have pooped it out and I bet it wasn't fun neither. Never did that again.

dat's funny!! we had an english bulldog who once swallowed a sweet corn cob after the corn had been eaten... soneone threw to him and like you we didn't watch him and poof gone!!! 2 days later it came back out the way it went in!!! that poor dog was sure hungry after that, he didn't eat till then!!!

Ouch!!!
-
Well LPS  are you proud grandparents of a new sock puppy, or would that be a relief of a sockey experience.
Seriously hope he passes that without trouble.
-
Haven't seen it yet. He seems healthy and happy and eats his food good. We are trying to watch him better to see if it passes but he was out in the pasture yesterday so who knows. I keep waiting for him to trot up to the house with it hanging out of his azz. Then the wife will have to help him. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:

LPS, IS cooper shedding alot??? Man shadow is shedding like crazy. :doah: I take him outside twice a day and get him with a shedding blade. I think I could make a pillow out of all the hair. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

glenn its yu whos shedding quit blamin the dog..
does he have enough hair to shed?????????? just askin..............
nope... I don't. Well then again, maybe  just not on my head. :pouty:
-
glenn,he's losing his puppy hair,be sure to brush his tail feathers down otherwise they'll wrap around the tail, same for his front legs brush horizontal away from the legs,it'll be over after about 5 days as long as you brush everyday, its a golden trait, did his nose turn brown over winter or stay black? golden's nose turn brown in the winter ,black in the summer, curious
-
Yea easier said then done. :doofus: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: he goes crazy when I try to brush him. :rotflmao: but Yea I try and hit him everywhere.
And his nose has been black all along do far.
-
Cowboy up glenn, show shadow who's boss....lol,pretty sure that rack type deal you use pulls his hair that contarption is ment for short hair pups, even horses.my neighbor uses one on her horse.poor shadow now that dad's retired.

oh I do plenty of that.... As he's laying on my lap AGAIN. :pouty: :rotflmao:
-
No Cooper doesn't seem to be losing that much hair. I don't use those real sharp blades anymore. We have a brush that you click it and the wires retract and the hair falls off the brush. Love it and the dogs love to be brushed with it. Our cat even likes it and it works great. I don't think they like that real sharp thing you use. Ours don't. The one they love is called a self cleaning brush made by Pet Neat.
-
Been using that shedding blade on all my dogs on occasion. It seems to work best on shadow right now. He doesn't mind it he just wants to get at it and chew on it  :rotflmao:
The brush thing your using sounds like the thing they call the furminator. I have that and use it also.
I also using a brush, one side has nylon bristles other side fine wire bristles with a blunt point.
-
We just did a walkabout and guess what we found. A big turd with the anklet in it. Looked fairly fresh too. Finally passed it. I see it had some rubber dots on the bottom for traction. That may have been working against us as we waited the movement. What a relief to us and to Cooper. :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
did ya clean it for the wife??? I'm betting not!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:
-

NO DOTCH... he better not mail it to me either. :tut: :tut: :rotflmao:
-
LOL She was the one who actually saw it first. We both broke out laughing.
-
I am relieved and happy for you. For Cooper too! :happy1: The stuff they won't try to eat... :bonk:
-

Yea me too. And Yea they'll eat anything.
-
That's great news lps!! Pretty scary what them youngsters can get in to.
-
So at dinner tonight I mentioned what cooper had did, turns out a gal the Mrs knows their lab has had 3 surgeries cuz of eating socks, you did well lps!! Turns out they have ti keep the laundry baskets up high.. dang dogs.
-
We now keep our closet door tightly closed. So far he can't open it. He is smart though so I hope he doesn't figure it out or I will have to put a latch on it. He gets plenty to eat too. He shouldn't be hungry.
-
Its the little things in life that gives us joy enter pups pooping
,this has been a entertaining thread thanx guyz.
But yeah LP you dodged the bullet on this deal. lol.
-
I told the wife that Glenn has been asking if I am going to give the sock back to her and she got a chuckle out of it. She burned it in the fire she had yesterday. GONE! :rotflmao:
-
well LPS, i think my dog, your dogs brother :rotflmao: just out did cooper the other day!!!!!!!! :doah: :doah:
so yesterday morning started out like any other morning, let shadow out of his kennel, i noticed he may have spit up something, he already rolled out what looked like a sock. yep sure as hell, one of my wifes socks just like your wifes. it was all guey, slimy. :doah: pulled out the blanket i laid in there to air out and dry out, sure as heck there was another one!!!!!! :doah:  same condition....wet guey, slimy. both hit the garbage.
so i think he ate them somehow and during the nite spit them back up. i know he didnt poop them out from what i could tell. but they were pretty gross.
-
yup they are brothers for sure!!! oh my puppies!!! got to love them!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
A few weeks ago we let him have the run of the house. He jumps in bed between us and then migrates down to our feet. Usually sleeps all night but I let him and Buddy out once in the night when they get my attention sometimes. Pretty fun actually.
-
Just got home from the Vet. Here is how my boys looks now. Like he was just in a prize fight with Rocky. They neutered him too so poor guy. They neuter by weight so I asked if they weighed him before or after they took his noogies. She smiled. It is how much juice to put them out for their size.

They take out a slice of skin lower than the eyelid and then sew it up. She said it will tighten up as it heals. Looks painful. May have to give him a Tylenol if it seems to bother him too much. Oh ya, he weighed 60 lbs. Those other marks aren't from his skirmishes with Buddy. Must have been a clamp to hold his head that made those two marks.
-
one them pups heal fast... he doesn't look to far out of it...
-
Lookin like he'd like get outside in that last pic to me. Good as new in a day or 2.
-
LPS, have you moved on from the puppy food yet???? i just bought another 20 lb bag but am thinking of moving on to the maintenence
diamond brand soon. maybe even sooner, just start mixing the 2 until the puppy version is gone.
our vet said from 9 months to a year you could switch them over??? they'll be 6 months old on the 26th, next week????????/ just curious as to your thoughts or your plan ??????
-
Just had Cooper neutered and had his eyelid operated on last Wed. I asked them and they said it is ok to feed the large breed puppy stuff until they are 8 or 9 months old. Then go to the adult stuff I guess. So I think I will order another bag of the puppy stuff. I get 40 lb bags. Getting low on this bag so will get one more of them. Good that our Vets said about the same thing.
-
 :banghead: well LPS, cooper needs to catch-up. my wife said shadow chucked up a glove I was missing. Then he chewed one of the fingers off the other one. :doofus:
They weren't expensive gloves, just those thin brown garden type glove, but they were brand new. :doah:
Not only that the dipshait eats the shelties poop besides. Grrrr. training-087 training-087 :banghead: :banghead: :taz: :taz:

-
LPS, i made reference in the good morning thread that leads me to believe you do not kennel cooper up at night???? does he behave at night??? i'm afraid yet that shadow might chew on everything thats loose in the house, or crap and pee during the night even though he hasnt done it but once since we had him. and that was up north the very first night and who knows what he consumed that day????? :doofus: :doofus: :bonk:
because it stunk......like bad......throw away his blanket i put in the kennel bad!!!!!!!
-
LOL ya what they eat sure makes a difference doesn't it? I wondered what you were doing with Shadow. We went shopping over a month ago and left him loose in the house. It was already fairly dog proofed. ?? Kind of. We have our slippers and shoes in the porch protected with a child gate. Well he did fine. So then we left him longer when we went on a longer day trip. Pretty much ok. So now we never put him in the kennel. It is where we store his toys and he pulls them out to play with them. He jumps in bed with us now and after a few minutes he lays by our feet. If he jumps down we let him be. If he needs to go out during the night he comes and whines quietly next to my head so I get up and let him out. Works great! I think we found a pee spot or two as this was developing but no big deal. The wife got this spray that she sprays on it whilst cleaning it up and leaves no stains. Haven't had an accident in a long time now. We sure love him. He gets kind of rowdy at times but is a great dog. When he wants out we just let him out. Sometimes Buddy goes out with him. He doesn't go far from the house, yet. Always comes back in after not too long or we go out and check him out. Usually chewing on a piece of wood from the woodpile. He learned that from Buddy. I got screen guards for the screen doors on the camper. Will get them in this week. He scratches on the sliding door here when he wants out during the day or does his whine thing. He is pretty vocal. Kind of nice.
-
Looking forward to seeing you at our camping spot. Too bad Gunner won't be around.
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: damn, shadow must be his brother...........does ALOT of the same things. :rotflmao: we've let shadow loose in the house on short trips.....just not so sure about overnight yet. be nice to get rid of the kennel though!!!!! :doah:
-
Looking forward to seeing you at our camping spot. Too bad Gunner won't be around.
yeppers...same hear.......i'll even bring the old sheltie with!!!!!!!!!! :happy1:
-
I've been trying to get him around more people cuz he barks some and pees when he gets excited/scared. I use the FedEx and UPS people as training people. LOL He hasn't been around any other dogs and that is exactly what he needs now. Will be good for him. Buddy gets a little grumpy but is a real nice dog so we will keep him tied up or in the camper until we get all greeted. Will be a fun deal.
-
Has Shadow ever met another dog? I am curious to see if the know they are brothers when they meet.
-

:pouty: Too bad, sounds fun!! Maybe another time.
-
Ya too bad Gunner would have been fun to see you again. I will have some beer there too. :sleazy:
-
 Not so sure you should count us out yet. :tut: Brother has some warranty work on his car scheduled for Thursday. Nothing keeping us here after that, have to see what the weather looks like.
-
It's a done deal, he changed the mail yday. We're headin back up early Friday, so I should be able to make it this weekend. :happy1:  So what's the plan? I would imagine early PM Saturday is best for everybody. Noma Lake campground?

Sounds good to me, looked @ Google Maps & it doesn't look like it's more than 13-14 miles from your place. See if I can't be to your place ~ 1 or a little earlier.

Well we had another dog disagreement this morning. Cooper just pushes Buddy and bumps him to control what he does and finally Buddy gets tired of it and lets him have it. Happened this morning in the bedroom. Just going to get up and all hell breaks loose. Sounds a lot worse than it actually is. All is well now and Cooper is being nice to Buddy again. No new nicks on him.

:rotflmao: dogs must be on the same wave length!!!!!!! :bonk: :bonk: :doah: my 2 where at at this morning to!!!!!!! unfortunately the 14 year old sheltie doesnt have much for teeth up front so its like she just gums him and doesnt phase him. :banghead: :banghead:
i even had to get out the collar yesterday.....shadow was a little snot. :doah: :rotflmao:
-
I told the wife that Shadow has been a terror the last few days too. Same as Cooper. Interesting. They are both outside like best friends now.
-
I didn't bring Cooper or Buddy on the Sturgeon adventure. He evidently got mad and got up and took a full loaf of bakery bread off the counter and he and Buddy ate the whole loaf. He also took the wash rag off the sink. He is in his kennel now. No noon meal for him today. :angry2:
-
LPS....kids eh? he'll suck up to dad later, that's what they do....pretty soon if not already he'll mope around with his "guilty" look and crawl up in your lap,and of course you'll give in.
-
We are at that stage now Snow. LOL
-
lol, little shete head has your # already, you and glenn both ,couple softies.I ain't any better infact even tho my boy get's the hair on my neck to stand up when he miss behaves I understand that's what golden retrievers do,they get in to trouble,my boy is 8 years old and acts like a pup still, sunday he was chasing a butterfly for cripes sake...lol
-
Good for him. Must make him happy. Sounds like a puppy thing. :happy1: Dogs that know how to push our buttons are usually pretty smart dogs. They are reading us as much as we read them. I like that. Most of my dogs have just turned out to be great dogs and great friends. I used to put a lot of effort into making a hunting dog because my passion was field geese and ducks on water. Had a 16' johnboat with a 25 Yamaha. Was great to bring dogs in it. The dogs all got good doing both types of hunting too. I kept if fun but also serious. We all loved it. Now my dogs only purpose is to be my friend and to be as respectful of me as I am with them.
-
Good post. You hit the nail on the head as far as my dog experience goes
-
His first boat ride. He found his spot to sit. Right by the motor.
(https://tinypix.top/images/2021/05/12/fRhXF.md.jpg) (https://tinypix.top/i/fRhXF)
-
and he didn't jump in??? cool!! :happy1:
-
He got up and down from there a few times. Got pretty comfortable so I just left him alone to figure it out. You can see the slot on the white cutting board material. I open that and there is a stainless steel sink. Good for cut baits for trout or catfish and I can put my crawlers in there on ice to keep them cool. Also a wash down hose right below it so I can wash my hands there too. :happy1: :happy1:
-
Looks great lps!
-
Dang LPS, how long did he sit there?? Only time shadow might sit still is if he's sleeping???🥴 :rotflmao:
And he looks to be bigger than shadow.
That collar looks green  hope that's not a packers collar. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
Good lookin pup LPS,suprised he'll hang with ya after you had him snipped, lol I would piss on your leg for starters.... thanx for sharing his first boat ride, they grow up fast.
-
Thanks all. I just let him sit there when I am idling around. When I get moving he gets right up front to feel the wind in his hair. Like I used to. LOL I feed him 4 1/2 cups of food a day Glenn. So 1 1/2 morning, noon, and supper time. Per what the bag says. When they get 8 months we start backing it off some. By then I may start him on the adult food. When I am done with this 40 lb bag I will do that. I will get Buddy adapted to the same food. Doing 2 kinds is way too much stress. LOL I used to have these lure wraps that I could put on my lures so they don't tangle and I need to buy or make some so I can wrap my crankbaits before he grabs one. He keeps handing me my bags of Berkely plastics that I forgot I even had. He found them.
-
I have a 5 gallon bucket left of the large breed puppy food yet. I made the executive decision that when that is half gone, I'm going to mix that with the maintenance dog food and when that's gone it will be all maintenance dog food.
I feed him 2 cups twice a day, plus whatever the hell else he eats I don't know about. :pouty: :rotflmao:
-
Here is a better pose from Cooper. He does spend a lot of time up there. Just watches the geese, gulls and other boats go by.
(https://tinypix.top/images/2021/05/16/iG9YL.md.jpg) (https://tinypix.top/i/iG9YL)
-
That's cool. I can't imagine mine sitting that still. :pouty: :rotflmao:
-
I do have the advantage of him watching Buddy do things and then he does it too. That really helps.
-
I'm still trying to figure out if that's a green bay Packers collar on him???   :rotflmao:
-
Absolutely not!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: It is a Remington collar that I had on my yellow lab about 3 dogs ago. Just thought Cooper should wear it. Willy is buried on the south side of the maple tree in the yard. Sammy is on the north side. Cooper will be either east or west. Depends on where Buddy goes.
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :nerd: :nerd: :nerd:
Yea Gunner was afraid to ask.  :rotflmao:
-
So the last couple of weeks Cooper has been getting things off the counter and the kitchen table when we are gone. We have magazines and mail there usually. Things to read when we eat. Well the wife just went to get us Subs for brunch and I get on here to check out the weather radar. Buddy is right next to me so I am petting him as I look at the screen on the computer. I hear a slight noise and here Cooper is 15' from me and he is walking around on the kitchen table.   I yelled and him and he jumped right off of it and came to schmooze me out of being mad at him. LOLOL We have been putting him in his kennel when we leave now. He used to be real trustworthy. I spose he is big enough to do those things now. SO I think when the wife walked out the door and I'm not making noise here that he biffed me even being here. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: He really jumped when I yelled at him. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: shadow hasn't done that yet. :rotflmao: but just about everything else  :doah:
-
Or how about this. I love the guy and he is pretty darn smart but!!! We are in the garage. It is a two garage door setup. They are both open. The walk in door is not quite closed so I go to close it. It is right next to one of the open garage doors. Cooper followed me to the walk in door and wanted out. I opened it and he ran out the door. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

My boy has been a handfull lately like cooper and shadow, must be in the golden retiever genes?.last night grilled up a couple bugers for supper, had a pale of good old fashion potato salad on the counter, sealed up in tupper wear, sliced a couple hot pickles to add to the salad, darned pup nailed to the potato salad, got the tupper wear lid off,ate all the salad and even the sliced pickles by the time I got back in to the house with my burgers, bet he had/has the shetes all day.would serve him right,
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao:  Must be the moon phase we are in now. Can't be our dogs can it?
-
so LPS...............wanna pick you brain a bit. here is the deal. back when my chocolate lab was alive i could leave the shelties food down and CoCo, the chocolate lab would leave it alone and the sheltie could eat whenever she wanted to. keep in mind, they where both pups and grew up together.
now shadow will eat anything and everything in his sight, even things he shouldnt be eating. :rotflmao: he goes in a kennel at night so i can put the shelties food down so she eats at night.
so my question is, how do you do your operation with cooper and buddy??? i would like to put the kennel away so shadow doesnt need to go in it every night, i think he is good to go...........BUT...............i knoe for a fact he'll clean out the shelties food dish!!!!!
i'm open for suggestions from anyone thats willing :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:
-
some dogs are just that way Glenn.. good luck!!
-
At food time we feed both dogs. They eat all of their food so no problem with them eating each others food.
-
:happy1: thanks LPS!!!!!! yea my sheltie dont eat that way. :pouty: never really has......she takes a few kernels..walks away eats, comes back and does it again. guess i'll have to figure something out. i have been putting her food down when shadow eats and he is getting better at not trying to plow through me to get at her food though!!!!!1 :rotflmao:
-
LOL Buddy started eating faster once Cooper grew up and wanted Buddies food too. Haven't put Cooper in the kennel inside except if we go somewhere and don't put him in the outside kennel. At night he is loose. We have learned what to keep things out of his way.
-

-
LPS, I wandered through fleet farm today and they had a whole palate of the diamond maintenance dog food. Must be an Amazon thing??
-
Maybe Amazon is doing that so we buy their Wag food.
-
Things went well at the Vet today. My boy looks pretty beat up by it all. I shed some tears for him on the way home. They really got into it fixing his eyelid this time. Looks like they got it fixed. Must hurt like heck. They said to give aspirin instead of Tylenol. Buffered aspirin is better for the stomach.

He should heal up pretty good.
-
Poor dude, keeping him otta the weeds n seeds will be tough. So was tgat an old injury the worked on?
-
No it just started happening when he was about 3 months old. The Vet said it is common and is genetic. Some don't get it till a year old or even older. This is my 6th lab and I have never had a dog with it. It is an inverted eyelid. It turns in. His was the bottom one but can be a top or bottom one. Sometimes take 2 surgeries to get it done. Looks like they got it this time.
-

don't worry boober, I have complete confidence cooper will be pampered good and proper. :rotflmao:
-
I just realized reading the posts that yes I need to keep him away from the river. SO I will have to put him on a leash when I head down there. Will have to keep an eye on him so he doesn't sneak there. He has done that. He stops and looks back to see if I am watchin. LOL I just say OK go ahead. LOL Oh ya he weighs 68 lbs. Supposed to be feeding 4 cups of food a day. Twice a day now. I know the wife and I heap them up so may be 5. If he starts getting chunky we will cut back. He has a huge amount of extra skin so he should grow some more. Buddy gets half that but he is 11 years old and looking good.
-
Love the he77 out of both of them and also Bob our female cat. Both dogs like her and if she hisses they jump! AND I mean JUMP!! Hilarious. I think she just likes doing it sometimes. She will walk right in front of them by inches strutting here stuff. Sometimes Cooper will go up and poke her with his nose and even bark at her. She sits with her legs crossed for awhile. Then she hisses and wacks him and he jumps and almost falls down sometimes. Funny as heck.
-
Shadow has alot of extra skin to but he's already a monster. :rotflmao: tallest lad I've had
-
Their Dad is 95 lbs. They look like they have a lot of him in them.
-
glad all went good for Cooper!! yup have fun keeping him out of the water!!! :rotflmao:

Wow, I never heard of it either with the labs we've had. I wonder if Glenn's hound will get it eventually .
-
Ya I sure hope not.
-
yea with all the labs I have had I never heard of it before either...
-
I've been watching since we met up, nuttin resembling it so far!!! :happy1:
-
Poor Cooper! :undecided: I remember reading about that in James Herriot's vet/dog novels. Think it's called entropian or something where the lashes turn inward. That HAS to hurt bad! Extra Milkbones tonite!
-
I think that is what they called it Rebs. I have those books and haven't read them in 20 some years. Should get back into them. I liked the show on PBS too.
-
Hope Cooper comes out of this unscathed and am sure he will. :happy1:
-
1 year and 2 days ago this great friend came into our lives. It has been a blast and we love him so much.

Cool, we picked up shadow a few days after you did, on Dec 20th. Remember well, I was at the cabin and picked him up on the way home. :happy1:
-
LPS, do you still have that rug, carpet.??? We have one just like it at the cabin, man that thing sucks to clean off. collects dog hair like the dickens! :pouty:
-
Yes we got a few of them at Menards. They are sturdy but yes they are a pain to vaccuum.
-
SO the wife bought these a month ago. You give each of your dogs one morning and night with feedings. They love them. Takes 30 days to kick in they say. After that long I don't hardly ever see Cooper eating poopcicles. Well worth the try. They are a breath freshener too. LOL
-
bought what?
-
Ok the pic didn't download. Will try again.

Agreed...LOL,I wonder if glenn rolls in dead fish as well?
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

So during the middle of the night Cooper started barking fiercely. When a fox trots by and he smells them he barks but not like this. He was standing on top of me and barking like all heck was breaking loose. Then he started shaking like crazy. I wonder if a coyote or wolf was outside? Not sure if a bear would be around yet but he was petrified. Took awhile to calm him down.
-
Wow, you didn't see anything tho?
-
Didn't see or hear anything. He has a great nose.
-
Do the horses act up when something with size strolls thru?

your dogs brother acts the same way sometimes, although we dont live in the boonies he gets wound up at times to different noises out side. the hair on his back stands straight up! he growls, ruffs and occasionally barks!
i've never really noticed it up at the cabin but a couple times, especially with all the different critters up there!!!!! and here i thought it was just my bonehead dog!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-

I can tell if there is a deer or something near them cuz Bucko our buckskin will stare it down and will even run towards the critter.
-
My dogs bark at turkeys and deer every day. I’ve also had them bark at a fox and it sounds the same. But when a coyote shows up, their bark is much different. We also had a bear ramble through once and a pair of wolves another time. The bark then was similar to the bark with coyotes, but even more different. Almost like angry.
Amazing to go to the window when they bark inside the house and not see anything there, and then see deer a couple hundred yards in the distance.
-
A coworker had a bear in his yard already last week Barry. So that is a possibility.
-
when i went up to the cabin this last time, driving over to the cty rd 35 access i seen a real live skunk prowling along the ditch......so yea i think the critters are getting out of hibernation mode!!!!!
-
I worry about skunks. Cooper hasn't been sprayed by one yet....
-
I bet, my yellow got sprayed not good. I keep a skunk kit in the truck during the fall but I should have one at the lake also.
-
dawn dish soap, peroxide and water I thing it was for best think to take away the scent...
-
That is the magical mixture for sure. :happy1:
-
Hmmmm,your skunk mixture works?
when my boy was young he got nail good from mr stinky,we were duck hunting near milan mn,camped on the river, dang pup had stinky yellow pizzz all over his face, must of got a good whiff of my skunk anal region.
thru the pup in the back of my truck and headed to town, had dawn dish soap in camp, but was told tomato juice is the ticket, bought 2 gallons of it,at camp threw mr stinky in the river, scubbed with dawn, then poured all the tomato juice on him.still stunk to high heaven,so not a chance camping with mr skunk dog we headed back home, called the vet...barr none this worked on the spot...."skunk off" he also gave me a small spray bottle of this juice incase I got sprayed, that was 20 years ago and many skunks later, great stuff
-
I'll just say it works from 1st hand experience with the pups...
https://www.petmd.com/dog/grooming/evr_dg_how-to-get-skunk-smell-off-dog
-
I believe ya mike as others have claimed the same, just not in my case I like the immediate effect of skunk off even after stapling the stink in with dish soap, vet asked me if I had used anything else, and he smiled when I gave him the run down, plus I'm sure he(vet) got a whiff on my new manly toilet water on my boots/clothes.
plus other dog handlers claim female FDS works wonders as well, never went there in my case.
-
LP,
Curious if cooper rolls in your meadow pies? or eats them as well.I had one golden that loved green/brown steaming hot pies from the long faces in the barn, just nasty rolling in those clumps. dead fish was a gimmy as well, gotta get that stink on.
-
Maybe I've lucked out picking pups, by the sounds of it you've had some real winners over the years snow!! :rotflmao:
-
Maybe they watched the master!!! :sleazy:  :nerd: :nerd: :nerd:
-
Cooper hasn't rolled in them much lately. If he does we go right to the outdoor faucet and hose him down. He does munch on the hard ones at times. I have used the soap, peroxide, warm water for skunks a few times and it works great. My go to method of choice.
-

-
Maybe they watched the master!!! :sleazy:  :nerd: :nerd: :nerd:
Hey Hey glenn your the one that ordered a case of anti "poop" eating bi- product trying to kick the habit.
Yup bobber, seems all my boyz over the past 50 years like to roll in stink, everyone loved rotting dead fish along lakeshore walks...lol,gotta love em regardless.
PS, nice n easy to use "skunk off" one just spray's (spray bottle) the effected area,no hosing the pup down, just easy peasy, works on contact.
Now that spring has sprung, snow melted away, darn pup's alway's find new smells, they can't help what they do,the stinkier the better.
-
SO the new Cooper and Buddy project is to weigh them. I am getting closer to success. I am trying to get Cooper to stand on the scale first with his front legs and then his back legs. He keeps sitting down when I do the back legs so not completely on the scale. I will wait and have the wife help. Her touch helps.
-
LOL LP, kids....you must be using a bathroom scale eh?I'll bet cooper thinks it's a game .
-
Yup Snow using the bathroom scale. It helped with him on leash and both of us to keep the scale in the right spot. Buddy did it like a pro. Maybe his previous owners did it like that??? Cooper is about 80 and Buddy is now the little guy at 71. It was sort of a rodeo so will do it again sometime. lol
-
I bet you and the wife have quite the conversation when this is going on ....lol,"sit",stay....and of course "NO" been there done that over the years.
-
LOL Exactly. We were both laughing. She wondered what was up when she saw the bathroom scale in the front room when she came in after work. Always a circus..
-
In the magic mixture we forgot the baking soda. SO peroxide, baking soda, dish soap and water.
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: would of been to be a mouse in the corner watching that circus!!!!!
only time shadow gets weighed is at the vet clinic. we dont own a scale at home. its hard enough to gethim to sit on the vet scale, even with it being like 2ft by 4 ft. but he is getting better with his sit and stay commands!!!!!!!! wish my wife would listen that good!!!!  :rotflmao:
-
day dreamer!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
The trouble with the new Ranger is that he comes running and jumps in when he hears it turning over. I have to kick him out so the gets some excercise sometimes. Him and the wife are going to have to fight over who gets to ride with me. They both jumped in the other day and I broke out laughing and looked at her and said you two have to decide who's boss of the situation. She bent her legs so Cooper and her fit. That won't last long though and she will toughen up on the issue. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
My boy after a swim which happens multiple times a day with the water so close to us now. He was 80 lbs a couple of months ago.
(https://tinypix.top/images/2022/06/05/KqKpF.md.jpg) (https://tinypix.top/i/KqKpF)
-
Good lord! 80 lbs. & all that energy, he must blow thru a pile of dog food. It goes to a good cause tho!
-
lol yes I measure it out too. He gets 2 cups twice a day. Buddy is 12 now so only gets 1 cup twice a day. They both get a treat or two daily also.
-
Looks like Cooper is heavier than shadow?? shadow is tall!!
How much do you feed cooper, LPS? Shadow gets 2 cups twice a day!!
Maybe I should give him more, maybe then he won't eat the fish I took out last night!! :angry2: training-087 training-087 :banghead: :banghead:

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

oh my no nord tonight!!! :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
Oh I'm having nords. Just took out another container. :pouty: but my last one :pouty:
He didn't get them all. :sleazy:
-
Read what I said to Dotch Glenn. 2 cups twice a day. It was up to 6 cups a day when he was an older pup.
-

you posted that while I must of been pecking away!! :rotflmao:

When we are away and the dogs are in the kennel. We just fill a feeder for Buddy and he can help himself. Cooper has an automatic feeder that the wife bought for him so it rations out his portions. He would eat a bucket full if he had it. Well the last time we forgot to zip tie it to the kennel and he of course knocked to over and got the top off and helped himself to all of it. lol Well this time we did zip tie it but now he knows he can push the release button and get the top open and eat it all at once. lol He was hungry when we got home.

Last night we had our last of our homemade ring bologna. It was smoked too. I cleaned up the pan today and the casing comes right off when simmering it so it was still in the pan. We have 2 of those plastic Rubbermaid 14 gallon garbage cans. One is for garbage and one is for dog food. Cooper opens them frequently if we don't have the child gate up for the entry way. So I opened and dropped the casing in the garbage can and took two steps and I hear the lid drop shut. I turned around and he had already swallowed the casing. He got it that fast. It didn't really matter but surprised me how smooth he was. BUT I am still in complete control so all is well here.
-
:rotflmao: Yea you might think your in control. :sleazy: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Such a good helper. :rotflmao:
-
Hey LPS, maybe you could send me that white nozzle  I bought the exact same watering can and the first thing shadow did was destroy that white top  :doofus: :rotflmao:
-
I will see if it is still ok. So Mike don't you like the color of that one? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Last year it was on the deck with no water in it and he bit some holes in it. I was proud to have sealed them up with Shoo Goo. That stuff is great. Beyond that this year.
-
just joshin ya!!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: good pups!!!! got to love them!!! :happy1:
-
just joshin ya!!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: good pups!!!! got to love them!!! :happy1:
cooper looks pretty proud of his accomplishments too! :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
he sure does!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
I couldn't love him any more than I do... I read that even when you lose a great dog you learn to love the next one too. May even love them more each time but they are still different dogs.
-
So had a good day fishing today. Caught some nice walleyes. Glenn's dogs brother sits up on that sink/cutting board area. He gets so excited when I net a fish. He really leans into it. Well as I netted one today, just as I was lifting the net with fish out of the water SPLOOSH. He falls in. I sat the net down in the boat and called him to the motor well and grabbed him by the scruff and lifted and he climbed in. He was pretty wound up by this time. He shook all over me and Buddy and jumped right back up on his perch.

buddy pushed Cooper in!!🤣🤣
-
No but Buddy came running, I think he was worried. You should have seen the look on Coopers face when he first looked at me after his head came up in the water. LOLOL I wish I had a pic of that.
-
Bet that woke him up! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
LPS, Does Cooper go into the water alot?? When we are at the cabin. Shadow is always in the lake! :rotflmao: except this last time up, he wasn't in it much maybe the water was too cold. That never stopped my other labs!?
-
Yes he loves the water. When it is hot he will run down to the river and take a dip and run right back up to me. I brought a new towel in the boat last week. After we were done fishing he ran down there at a high rate of speed. Here he comes back up with the new towel. LOL He must have thought I forgot it.
-
He isn't actually swimming much now just wading in a little. Probably due to the cold.
-
Does he like to go and take your shoes??? Shadow does it every morning when I put mine on. :rotflmao:. I think he does it for attention. :pouty: putz!!
-
I turned that into a give me my slippers deal. He loves to give them to me. He gets both at once now and then and is proud of it. I make him sit when he gives them to me.
-
That is awesome guys, Remi does the same, but just my pairs of shoes nobody else's. Must be tied to us being the alpha male thing, they never have hurt the shoes just like grabbing them and bringing them to us while they are excited.
-
Cooper is my 6th lab and about every other one I have been lucky to have has been a slipper fetcher. I have been lucky to have every one of them.
-
As Glenn brought up Happy Birthday Cooper and Shadow. So I am watching Bourdain which I miss as I idle down for my nap. With the leaves off the trees we can see the river real well. So as I sat down Cooper starts grumbling and we wondered if a fox was in the yard. The river is about 200 yards from the house. Here it was a boat trolling upriver he was grumbling at. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: So now he thinks it is his river.
-
LPS, does Cooper shed as bad as Shadow. :pouty: sheez, between the hair I vacuum up and brush off hi I'm surprised he isn't bald😣 :rotflmao:
I could stuff it all in a pillow case and make a pillow better then. A goose down pillow! :doofus: :rotflmao:
-
Ya know I just did the Doggy Shampoo at the local Pet Pantry. The going rate is $18. Per dog. First they help you brush your dog. They gave me one of those horse loop brush things for Buddy and it tool hair off like there was no tomorrow. Cooper too. Took hair off unreal. I said I was embarrassed that they had so much and the lady laughed and said this is great and it is why you are here. Then we did Buddy's bath and she just kept Cooper with her on leash as she waited on customers. He kept looking at me and giving me his little whine thing. Was hilarious and so good for him and me. So then I finished bathing Buddy and then he went on the drying table so I could warsh Cooper. He resisted but once in the bath thing with warm water he melted. Absolutely a wonderful experience and we will do it again. Hope this answered your question. LOLOL
-
And yes they both shed a lot so the bath really helped.
-
Hey Glenn I bet your dog can't do this. I was making breakfast of sausage links and eggs and toast. I put the slice of bread in the toaster and was waiting for the sausage to cook more so was in here looking at computer. When I went out to crack the eggs and drop the toast the slice of bread was gone. Cooper had been watching me as usual when I put it in the toaster. Here he stood up to reach the toaster and took the bread out of it. ????? Man they are smart dogs and trouble makers. Good thing I love him so much.
-
I realize now that he wasn't beside me as I cracked the eggs as usual. He stayed in the office. LOLOL Guilty!
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: yep........your dogs one up on my dog!!!!!!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
Dang, Cooper set the bar higher with that one lps! Must be the golden retriever in em, my lab is an angel.. :whistling:
-
Our toaster is on a coffee cart thing where our coffee maker is. Slightly lower than a counter top. The bread was bakery rye and is too big so some sticks up a little. He watches me when I put it in and now I know why. LOL
-
One other possible benefit to having a Corgi... :whistling:
-
I have thought about that too Dotch. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

The week before I retired I told the wife I was going to take an nap every day right after lunch when I could. I immediately ordered those blinders. They were about $10 and make a nap a heck of a lot better. Mandatory for a good nap.
-
Cooper must be my dogs brother! :doofus: :doah: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
He's always wanting to sit on my lap
Must be an Alpha thing, all ours have done the same, even when when it's time for bed. Gotta be right next to one.
-
By the way lps, looks comfy!!
-
Funny how all of that dog can be on ones lap and you hardly feel them it is so comfortable.
-
You all look mighty comfy!
-
Deffinatley a dogs life. Unlike glenn who leads a toads life.
-
Here is some very important info. Pour hydrogen peroxide down a dogs throat to make them throw up what they just swallowed. That fricken Cooper and Jake were running around in the yard all happy and Cooper swallowed Jake's duck. About a foot long made of a few layers of cloth. Has feet and a tail sewed on the the body along with the head. One of those. HE swallowed it. I just saw it go down and grabbed his head and looked but it was gone. The wife got a bottle of the peroxide and I held him at a sit with his mouth wide open. She poured a good jag or two in and He swallowed most of it. He started puking water up but no duck. I held his mouth open again and she poured some more down his throat. Same thing puking water. Did it the third time and he started rolling around and then puked up the duck. Just like that. Ended up being mayhaps 2/3 of the bottle of peroxide to get er done. May have saved his life. What if I hadn't seen it do didn't know. That could have been tragic. Well all ended well.
-
:happy1: glad to hear all went well. That would suck .
-
just watch over him, just to be safe... good thing ya seen it happen!!!
-
I love’em, but they sure can be a lot of work.
-
I read that Golden Retrievers have an extra long teenage span. I sure believe it.
-
Here is a pic for comparison on who gets the dirtiest around here. This makes Jake look bigger than he is. Cooper is quite a bit bigger than him. BUT Jake splashes in the mud and even lays in it. Hope he learns better. LOL

Hoping the frost goes out soon so it dries up.
Unfortunately it will probably freeze and thaw about 10 times as early as spring is.
-
That's a dirty pooch..lol. yep lakeside they'd be chasing dummies off the dock!
-
So far he is not as bad today. The gravel in the wet spot by the steps helped. LOL

Our puddles in the driveway have gotten greasy & dried up a little but are far from gone completely.

Here is the boys relaxing.
