This is still in the planning stages but i wanted to see how much interest we have.

MNO member Rem has a thousand acres available to hunt down near Marshall MN. He has offered a weekend of free guiding for a handful of parents who bring their kids. We are hoping to get a few kids out hunting and teaching them about safety, dogwork and teamwork in Pheasant hunting.

We don't have much of a plan other than having all registered members be required to have a child hunter with them. The goal is to teach the next generation about Pheasant hunting.

Date.... possibly the 3rd weekend of the 08 season. ?

Rem says there is a casino a few minutes from his land that has rooms for $39 a night. We would hunt Saturday and Sunday only.

I'm hoping to contact a few sponsors as soon as we know the details. we'd like to offer each child a gift for showing up, maybe a hat and vest or something better.

This would be for a limited amount of hunters only.

Any interest?

My , 3 year old is a little young for a trip like this so i guess that counts me out. But one of my passions in life is getting new people into pheasant hunting. If there is anyway i can help let me know i would be willing to donate some $ to help someone with gas or room if that is holding someone back from going. Get those kids out there and off the couch. I don't want to speak too soon but I'd bet my (soon to be) 12 and 15 year olds would love to go.  And I can positively say that this 42 1/2 year old would love to.   ;D

Keep us posted.  Sounds like fun.

It’s been a long road trying to get my (step) boys into the outdoors. But some progress has been made. Last year we did firearm safety, started on archery, and tomorrow they will try ice fishing

They are 15 and just about 13 (good kids) I will talk to them and see what they say
I think it is a great idea. However, we often think differently

Rem no matter the out come thanks for the offer :happy1:

Count me in if you need some help.  If you have room I'll bring my son, but he has enough hunting around here if no room.  I could also provide some bunks at my cabin about 20 miles south of Marsahall if someone has trouble coming up with $ for a motel room.  I could bring Justin's youth model 20 gauge for someone to use.

My 2 hunting kids said they would like to go. But, that's along way out, and things could change.

My oldest is only 2, I wouldn't need to hunt.  But I would bring my dog, 0ne 20 gauge and 3 12 gauges shells included for the kids.

Both of my boys won shot guns at our MDHA banquet so this topic keeps coming up here at my house.  We're really looking forward to this.  Let us know how its progressing.

I'd bring my chocolate but I don't think she'll be a good hunter.  I took her once about 3 years ago and have since then not taken her.  I think the gun shots would scare her.  Heck she ran and hid under my bed one day when Momma Grute put a stuffed wood duck on the floor so she could dust a shelf off.  My dog seriously got scared of it and ran away.  As we pushed it closer to her, she kept creeping further under the bed.  Yeah, she'll stay home.

My boys on the other hand wont stop talking about this.  Where is it?  When is it??   :blablabla:  I just bought a O/U for my youngest so now all 3 of us have nice bird guns.  Really hope to give em a work out.  Keep in mind though, Im just a shade less green at the upland birds than my boys.   :newhere:    ;D

Keep us updated.  My boys are hoping for a report soon.   ;D

Our kids might be interested; is there an age limit?  Oldest is 16.  So you're thinking Oct. 25-26?  This is a great idea!

My dogs will be all we need (POINTING YELLOW AND B LAB). Theres alot of camping and state land so some adults could get out also. Lots of birds and if we go after goose hunting opens lac qui parle is only 15 min away. I have a few weekends booked but I would like to see some kids knock down some birds. plenty of time to plan but gives us something to look forward to in the off season.  ;D

So where are we at with this?

After shooting 100 clays each yesterday, my boys are primed up for this.

Hey Rem, how we doing on this? Can u please give us an update, so everyone can plan for the day.

I'm still not sure if I am coming down or not, my biggest concern is that I can't hunt my dog and Pheasant hunting to me would not be the same without my own dog. I do understand that you have flushers and enough dogs allready though.

Just being honest with you all and giving you a heads up if i choose not to make the hunt.

Let's bring this back to the top and have some more discussion on getting together for a kids pheasant hunt.  Who would be interested?

Myseld and my 2 boys are.  Im going into a bad month to month & 1/2 of work but I'd do what it takes to get my boys to take part in this.

I've got some friends (with kids) who don't do the forum thing too much but would probably be interested too.  I would just have to do it the old fashioned way and talk with them.
