The fishing opener will be here before we know it.  THANK GOD!!!  I want to know where everybody is going to be.  We will be up on Mille Lacs this year at midnight on Friday night.  We do it every year, and as long as the waves are being nice to me this year, it should be a great time again!

So where is your opener get away?

My daughter and me will be turkey hunting on that weekend.

So, if I do have time to fish, it will prolly be in my pond.
(at least I know I'll catch something there)

I will most likely be headed to Mille Lacs too.   :fishing:   Been going up there since the mid 1980's and every year I fish that lake I still learn someting new.  I have to say it's one of the best lakes to fine tune mutiple ways to walleye fish and get some good practice, everything from the plain jig and minnow, to rig's at different lengths, live bait vs. artificial, trolling planer boards, slip bobbers, casting cranks, day vs. night, wind vs. calm,.  For example last year for opener, I experimented with different spooled lines, different snell lengths, color of plain hooks, phelps floaters, artificial bait's and live baits.

I'm not 100% sure yet, but I imagine I'll be bringing my son along (otherwise we won't catch fish), to my parents cabin on Girl Lake (Longville) part of the Woman Lake chain.  We don't usually catch much on opener weekend-but ya just never know!  ;)  For us it's more just the guys weekend away.  But ours has a lil kicker to it-we have to be "home" early Sunday morning as we celebrate my daughter's birthday-5/12.    :party3:

I have vivid memories of years gone by, I was just a lil Woody then.  And my Dad would bring up batches of Bean Soup, Chili and/or Pea Soup to feast on for the weekend.  Back then it was my dad, my Grandpa and other family and friends.  I also recollect noxious fumes due to the mmmm mmm good soup and/or Chili and wishing I was anywhere but there!  :puke: It was sometimes bad enough to bring tears to your eyes!   Still-everyone had fun, and we used to catch fish occasionally as well!  :oops1:  :offtopic:

I think I am passing on opener this year.  Too crazy.  Too many boats and people who fish twice a year trying to back a boat in (or taking it out) and taking forever to do it.   :banghead:

Can't remember the last time I fished on opening weekend, tend to stay away from opener and fishing on weekends. I like fishing during the week when the lakes are quiet and I have the first parking spot to the right on the landing. I will be out that first Monday and Tuesday and maybe Wednesday Can't tell ya where, I don't want to give up my parking space... :fishing:

I kinda hate to admit it but I think I will be at home helping the wife with a garage sale.   Gotta bank a few days for hunting next fall.  :whistling:

Me and Ducky could make a road trip out of it, he could bring his fish nets!   :rotflmao:

JK Duck!

But, really, I'll be up that way this summer fishing, maybe I'll stop by.

I got a few secret spots up there and the boy wants to go.  ;D
