I think it is a blast. Besides chicks dig the headphones and knee high black socks when you go beach hunting. I have found alot of junk but one time by the rum river I was just monkin around and found a dime sized coin that was silver and dated 1604. Spanish I believe. and then a minute later found one that was gold between a quarter size and a fifty cent piece dated 1610. There was no building or anything around so you never know what or where you can find something. I use a Whites spectrum xlt that has a lcd screen that tells you by icons what your probable target is and also will give you the depth it is buried. Whites make awesome tools.

I bought a cheap one a few years back for $120.  I haven't used it much.  I found a few newer couns and lots of screws, bottle caps, nails, etc.  I'm going green by accident I guess.

When I was a kid the beach on Sunday morning used to be a ton of fun. We'd find watches, keys. change and off course pop tops and bottle caps. The beaches don't seem to be as popular as they used to be.
