what a joke let spend billions of dollars that we had to barrow from china to tell everyone the wrong date that they will be getting a return witch they already new about.. And tell me this how is this going to help the economy. I say instead of send the money out take the money and pay off some of the debt this country is in. And to think what kind of idiots we have in the white house?

Where the tax break for the men and women that have to dig deep and pay taxes? The ones who at tax time pay in?

I heard some stores will offer you a discount if you spend your entire check at their store in one shot.  The idea is to spur more shopping/spending.  Well I know EXACTLY where ours is going - to pay off bills.  That's what some financial guru was saying on the news last night too.
If ya don't know where ya are, go back to da beginnin.

Bad thing is supposely we have to pay it back next year when we do our taxes. So it is not a free and clear check your getting. This is a ploy from the white house saying their trying to help the economy. Lower the  :censored: price of gas if you want to help. I think everyones taking their check and paying bills or help with gas, I know I am.

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

A. No, the Stimulus Payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

In todays paper.  For every $300 gift card you buy with your rebate check, Cub Foods will add $30.00.   I guess this is one way to boost your rebate by 10%

Wow. there are plenty of people that are mad about getting a gift. I just wonder when was the last time anyone received a birthday card with 10.00 or 20.00 bucks and got angry about it.  If a person really feels that bad about getting a rebate(gift) just send it back, I am sure they will take it back. I am thinking this is kind of silly.  We really can not do alot about how prices are going up. But,  do you slow down on the highway to try and save a little, do you recycle to try to help, do you help your neighbor whenever you can(w/o complaining about it). Do you spend more time complaining about problems or solve them. I am not directing this to anyone, but, please take alook around, the world is in a tough situation, only when we make it that way.
I say cheers  :toast: to a gift, I am taking my wife on a 2nd honeymoon, one that we could not afford last year on our 20th anniversary. And to make it even better, (to save a little) we are doing it on the fishing OPENER!

Rocketman, I hope your wife really enjoys a fishing trip.  Otherwise it would be like buying her a vacuum for her birthday --- generally not a good idea.   :oops1:

Taxes are going to go up with or without the rebate checks.......... We can all sit here and be pissed off at gas prices and the economy, thats easy. Or we can decide to make changes and start driving different vehicles, I'm guilty of driving a Suburban that gets 12-16 mpg, thats just stupididity on my part when gas is so expensive. I've decided to do something about it and find a 2nd smaller vehicle asap.

For those of you that don't need or want your rebate checks, just send them my way, I can sure use the extra cash...... ;D

What does the price of a gallon of gas have to do with a rebate check from the government?  I agree the checks are stupid and will have little if any impact on the economy.  When the government has done this in the past (yes Bush bashers, this is not the first time it's been done), it generally had little impact as most people either save it or pay off debt which does nothing to stimulate the economy.  I guess we truly are a socialist state/country when people are calling for the government to fix a capitalistic economy with price fixing on gas, rice, milk, etc.  Where's the end?  One thing we could do to help is to drill in Anwar and any number of off shore sittes, but the tree huggers start lawsuits that tie these endeavors up for years.  There are solutions and the problem has nothing to do with oil shortages.  Maybe it's Bush and his big oil profits huh (like he isn't already swimming in $$$$$$)?  I wonder where he hides the tail and horns?   :bonk:

Free money? A gift? You guys gotta be kidding right. You think they just pull it off the old money tree? NOTHING is WITHOUT A PRICE OR FREE. There is a payback you can bet. Most of it with interest to China. :banghead:

My thoughts exactly.  I find it interesting when people want the gov't to manipulate the price of something for their own benefit.  If you don't like the price of gas then maybe it's not a good idea to commute to St. Paul/Minneapolis from Lakeville everyday in a truck.

With the impending presidential election I realize the rebate checks are just a stunt by the republicans, but I don't care. I put the money to some good use and it helped my family out. The cost of gas disgusts me, but I'm glad I'm not paying over 9$+ a gallon like over in Europe. The other alternative is to move to Iraq where gas is .45 a gallon, but you can't earn enough money to own a car. We have it damn good here in the US. We all just need to rethink our needs.

A Republican STUNT?????  :puke:The Democratic hopeful just said he would like to see another round of rebate checks to help everyone with gas and groceries.  :banghead:When are people going to realize that this money has to come from some place??? :banghead: It is NOT FREE. EVERYTHING COMES WITH A PRICE. It is just a bandaid for a quick fix. We have large economic problems that are not going to be fixed by hand outs. Do you think $1200 bucks saved anybody from a mortgage foreclosure? Not a chance. It just put it off by a few months.
What I am getting at here is the problem is not going to be solved by giving handouts. That is part of the reason we are in the situation we are in. We live in the greatest country in the world!
What we need to rethink is WHO we are going to let manage our country.

When the government has done this in the past (yes Bush bashers, this is not the first time it's been done), it generally had little impact as most people either save it or pay off debt which does nothing to stimulate the economy.

If people pay off their credit card debt that free's up more space for them to spend. I agree with most that this will do very little to stimulate the economy. It is a very interesting time to live in right now. The biggest power in the world (USA) is having difficulties.

I would have no issues with the high gas prices IF there was something being done for alternative fuels, not named ETHANOL!!! I am taking every last penny I own right now and investing it in alternative fuels, SOLAR, WIND, etc. Hopefully I will be able to pay for my next refill of gas with cash instead of credit card!  ;)
