I have decided to have a photo contest. This contest will start now and end at Midnight August 17th and the winner will be announced on August 19th. This contest is open to all members of MNO. The theme for the contest is pretty open and can be any outdoor activity that you enjoy. I am not looking for a perfect picture but rather something the evokes some sort of emotion from me and catches my eye. I will be the one and only judge. The prize that I have selected is something that every outdoorsman/woman should have handy. It is a First Aid Kit. Enter as often as you like.

                                                        Good Luck

I'll throw my hat in the ring with a few pictures from this summer here in Duluth.. The common bond is all of these pictures had over 60,000 people looking on..

Here are a few that I liked of our kids from this summer:

I liked this one of our daughter and her little baseball "boyfriend" from our son's baseball team.

This one is of our son Joey while he is frog/snake hunting at the cabin with his "lucky" hat.  He wears this thing almost every single day....(he call's it his Indiana Jones hat, except for he can't prounounce it very well, so it's pretty funny, it sounds more like Engine Joe's hat).  I think he kind of looks like he is on an African Safari or in the jungle somewhere instead of just "Up North" in Minnesota.
And don't let that tiny little bug box fool you, that was just for the "smaller" critters (crickets, moths, etc.-for the "big" critters to eat)....MOM was hunting with him, so I had to carry the big bucket for the "good stuff"!  He even made me step on the head of a snake so he could grab it, the only thing was I closed my eyes when I stepped on it, and I stepped on the wrong end!!  He wasn't too happy with me when I did that, but it was pretty funny!  "MOM, YOUR STEPPING ON HIS TAIL, YOUR POSE' TO STEP ON HIS HEAD!"  OMG...the things we have to do!  And by the way, our "hunt" was very successful, we caught 28 frogs, 2 snakes and a turtle that day!  ~gg

And this last one, I'm just throwing in here because I think it is funny.

This is how we get our little "trouble maker" Billy into the car....as the matter of fact, this is how we get him into his bed...how we get him to go to school, the grocery store, church....etc.

Some scenes from Basswood Lake in the BWCA.

The bottom photo has a slight haze in the air due to forest fires on the Canadian side.

Do any of you remember the butterfly garden thread?  Well I couldn't find the thread but this would be a pretty good place to post these as well.  I put this garden in last year in August.  Now this year, it really bloomed.  Nearly everything came back.  I haven't trimmed anything but might next year.
