Glad you felt it.  Remember...aim low.  I've learned my lesson too....Your 20 should be adequate...just aim low or you will hit the spine...and they'll just drop right there.

Exactly...at least you didn't wound her. A good leson learned. Bow hunting is not as easy as shooting at a target. When face to face with a deer everything matters!! Good luck on yournext one! I hope to see a picture and hear a story.

We've all been there! I happened to me last year on a very nice buck. Talk about sick to your stomach. My brother got that buck rifle season and he picked the mount up on tuesday. I still get it rubbed in. I always try to aim at the lower 1/3 of the deer when they are that close. Those are actually kinda tough shots. The deer can hear you and see your every movement. If she spotted you she may have also ducked your arrow. Hard to believe that a deer could duck and arrow at that close of range but it has happened to the best of us. Keep your head up. It will happen.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Yep... thats why its called hunting.  I always used to practice close range shots(10 yds and under) with out the pins, practice off handed/ off kilter etc. it all will help someday... get em next time! :happy1:

i have a 10 yard pin because i have 5 pins and i refuse to shoot at a deer at 50 yards with a bow, heck i wont even shoot at 40 yards at one. trophy or not. ill only take shots im comfortable with.

You must rangefind everything around your stand as something to go by before hand. I usually pick large trees, a bush, or anything else that sticks out and rangefind them to use as a reference to where the deer is at for yardage. I have even talked to guys that will use utility flags that power companies leave in your yard as points of reference.
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.

Good job Beersunny.  Did you figure out your aiming thing?  I have the same pin set up as you so for a 10 yard shot, I put my 20 yard pin on the vitals, I look 1/2 where my 30 pin is and then put my 20 yarder on that spot.  So now Im aiming low with a good estimate.  I also bend at the waist so my line of sight is the same as when Im shooting flat.

Well congrats.  I hope the back straps were juicy.
If ya don't know where ya are, go back to da beginnin.

it happened to yesterday I was hunting at my buddies place hadn't seen alot over there but could here them I was thinkng maybe they were smelling me but I was persistant I was out yesterday morning.I was thinking with the new snow and a brisk wind from the north I would have a chance I arrived at 515 quietly got in my stand with harrness on and waited my buddy loaded his snow plow at 630 must of scared this 6 point abot 160 to 180 lbs decent looking thing I ranged finder him 26 yards set my second pin drew locked breathed squeezed watched through the sight arrow was heading alittle high but okay .......big wind gust right at that moment the arrow drifted sideways about four feet misssed the deer he spooked and ran off about twenty seconds later a bunch of scurring over in the bush all the deer cleared out my day was done
I did everything right but mother nature had other plans thats when I realised my socks were frozen to the bottom of my boots and I was freezing time to go  :cold:Thats why I love it the pure frustration of it all
went out this morning right at day break saw nothing again
